BFH Falcons View
November 18 to 22, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Falcon students and families,
I hope you all had an amazing November Break! We as a staff are all ready to come back and work hard with our students for the second half of the first semester. Our students and staff did an excellent job of honouring our veterans in the last week before the break with our November 8 student activity and ceremony (please check out the attached article and pictures).
The focus of the upcoming week will feature events around "Bullying Awareness Week" highlighting the importance of how we treat each other and demonstrate kindness and caring for one another in our school community.
I would also like to invite our entire community to attend the return of the Bev Facey Holiday Market on this Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. This F.L.I. planned event will feature members of our community and various businesses featuring Christmas crafts and products for Sale. All proceeds from the sale of tables selling sites will be donated by Facey's Leadership Initiative to the Strathcona Christmas Bureau.
With Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences and November Break behind us we also want to remind our students and parents that we are moving into the second half of the first semester. We are asking our parents to continue to communicate with their student's teachers, and to support their children as the rigour and responsibilities of the courses they are enrolled in continue to become more demanding. Also, we would ask that you encourage your children to take advantage of our Opportunity Wednesday academic coaching and rewrite exam sessions as we progress.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Ken Wlos
Principal
Bev Facey 2024 Remembrance Day Ceremony
A heartfelt thank you to all our students and staff who did such a great job honoring our Veterans on November 8 (Indigenous Veterans Day). The students this year were first challenged to undergo an activity and gallery walk highlighting what they would do and sacrifice to ensure the freedoms we have today. Students were also encouraged to share the stories of relatives and family members who served or are currently serving in the military. Our entire student body and staff then took part in our formal Remembrance day ceremony.
Bev Facey School Council - November 19 @ 6 PM

This Tuesday (November 19) is our third meeting of the year and we will be discussing a number of current school culture items and finalizing how we will be utilizing the Alberta School Council grant. Our council is vital to our school community, and we would love to see as many parents as possible attend. Please peruse the agenda via the PDF Link below the article.
We use a hybrid model allowing our parents to attend in person or virtually. If you are interested in attending via Microsoft Teams the link is below.

Congratulations to Ariyona Cooper (Art 20) on an amazing scratchart composition. This challenging medium requires students to scratch away the black ink to reveal the light values underneath… trickier than one might think!! Well done Ariyona!

Bullying Awareness Week ( Nov 18th - 22nd )
Bullying Awareness Week is an internationally recognized campaign aimed at raising awareness about bullying and its impact on individuals, schools, and communities. This week-long event promotes education, dialogue, and action to address bullying in all its forms—verbal, physical, relational, and cyberbullying. It encourages schools, parents, and communities to work together to prevent bullying and foster a safe, inclusive environment for everyone. Our students will be also taking part in grade level assemblies focusing on allyship and promoting kindness on November 20th.
On November 19th, we would like to encourage students and staff to participate in Odd Socks Day. Odd Socks Day is a fantastic event that serves as a symbol of celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion. It encourages people to wear mismatched socks as a lighthearted and symbolic gesture, reinforcing the idea that being different is something to take pride in. So, show your support and wear odd socks on November 19th.

Junior Falcons finish season with Silver Medal!
Congratulations to our Junior Boys football squad who finished their season with a silver medal in the Division II Final in a very close game against Ross Sheppard High School. The team can be very proud of their last game, they came back from a deficit a number of times to make the game a close loss.
Bev Facey New Football Locker Room Sponsorship
We are excited to share that we are building a new locker room for our Bev Facey Falcons Football team! With the support of the Strathcona Amateur Football Alumni Association (SAFAA), we are on a mission to raise $C92,000 for the construction of this project. We would be grateful if you could consider making a donation. This is a great opportunity to become an integral part of the Bev Facey Falcons’ Football legacy!
Our current one is outdated and no longer meets the needs of our growing team. A new locker room will provide an inspiring space where our athletes can prepare, bond, and cultivate team spirit. By sponsoring this project, you will not only be associating yourself with a successful and dedicated group of young athletes but also helping us create a new locker room that will significantly enhance their overall experience and environment. Your support will foster team unity, boost morale, and elevate the overall experience for our players and coaches.
