Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
This week, students will finish Roll of Thunder by examining how Mildred Taylor ends Cassie’s journey.
Students should continue to read their independent books. If you are interested in adding to our classroom collection, please visit our Amazon Wish List
Mx. Gomez, Math
Mx. Gomez will be out of town for a funeral; however, students are still expected to complete the work given in class. I will be unavailable for my usual tutoring times but will be back on Friday.
This week Math 7 began Unit 3 on Measuring Circles. Students did great with practicing Circumference. If students feel they need or would like more practice, their Zearn is aligned with where we are currently at in class.
In Math 6, we will begin Unit 4 on Dividing Fractions next week. Students completed their RCT #2 this week.
If you are able to donate, I have linked the math Amazon Wishlist. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/3HGDSTYZTUUQL
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
We investigated more voices of the African diaspora – Fuse ODG, the people of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the Garifuna people, Chef Eric Adjepong, and Step Afrika! I wanted to show SO much more, but we ran out of time. Students wrapped up a week with a formative assessment about perspectives of the diaspora.
Next week, students will do an in-class project for a two-grade summative assessment about the diaspora. We will wrap up the week with a reflection and a reset to prepare us for Unit 3: North Africa and Southwest Asia (Middle East).
If you would like to contribute to my classroom... here is my Amazon wish list: Wesselhoft Wishlist
Ms. Sagan, Science
Hello scientists!
During our three day week this week, students completed their summative for Plate Motion! A reading on rock types introduced students to the different categories of rocks and how they are formed, and we ended the week with our first Term 2 Roots quiz and a video from geologist Evan Green, who answered questions submitted by students.
Next week students will learn to classify rocks using a dichotomous key - if your student has an interesting rock they would like to classify, they can bring it in for that day! Please label any rocks your student brings into class so they don’t get absorbed accidentally into my collection! They will also begin learning about the rock cycle through some labs that will illustrate igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, and the processes of weathering, erosion, and deposition.
Roots Quiz 2.2 (keepers have an asterisk*)
petro, petri = stone (think: petrified, petroleum)
manu =hand (think: manuscript, manual)
ign = fire (think: ignite, igneous)
super = over, above (think: supreme, superposition)
pan = all (Greek) (think: pandemic, pantheistic, Pangaea)
Keepers: centi, milli, octa
