August 20th, 2024
Greetings Hyannis West Students and Families!
The first day of school is quickly approaching! We are getting excited to see all of our returning students and families as well as our new friends and families.
Establishing Routines
With a little more than a week left before school starts, it’s important to start implementing routines into your child’s schedule now. Setting earlier bedtimes and wake up times and limiting screen time will support your child with transitioning into the new school year. Here is an article that might help:
Summer Reading

Breakfast/Lunch/Snack at Hyannis West
Due to our school-wide Title I status, all Hyannis West students are eligible for universal free breakfast and lunch. We also received a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant that will allow all students to sample a healthy fruit or vegetable on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. In addition, classrooms will have a designated snack time so sending your child to school with a snack each day is beneficial.

Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
Being in school every day, on time, is extremely important for school success. If your child is riding the bus, they will need a current bus pass securely attached to their backpack. If you have not requested or received a bus pass, please call the Transportation Office at (508) 790-6498 or visit the Barnstable Public Schools website. https://www.barnstable.k12.ma.us/Domain/58
If you drop-off and/or pick-up your child, there are procedures to follow. For everyone to be safe, remain in your car, follow the car traffic around to the busport (one line in the morning and two in the afternoon), and a staff member will meet you at your car. There is no parking allowed around the busport area during drop-off/pick-up times. If you need to visit the front office, please park in a designated parking space and ring the doorbell at the front door.
Drop-off begins at 8:50 a.m. Students are tardy after 9:00. Pick-up is from 3:25 - 3:35 p.m. Buses depart the school at approximately 3:40.
Before/After School Daycare
As of now, our daycare program is full. All families needing daycare at this time will be placed on a waiting list. If you need before or after school daycare for your child and would like to be put on our waiting list, complete the registration form by clicking this link: Kindergarten through Grade 3 Registration Form.
