Talking Points
Perry is piloting an app called Talking Points. Through this app, we can text families and families can connect with us. It is especially helpful for families whose home language is not english, as it will translate automatically. You can download the free TalkingPoints app to your phone or you can choose to just receive them to your phone as a typical text message. You do not need to do anything right now other than know you may receive a text from staff via this service.
I promise we will not be driving you nuts with texts. The goal of this is to allow us to be a bit more responsive with families in the most common form of communication. For now, we will primarily be using it as a one on one way to keep families informed of the personal celebrations and learning moments for our kids.
Attention 8th Grade Families
In December, I will begin talking with your 8th grade students about college and career, interests they may have and options for their future. This is done in preparation for scheduling for high school classes which starts in late January/early February. Please don't worry if your 8th grade student is your oldest - we will take good care of you during the transition.
I like to start with a presentation for parents/guardians by Beth Propst from At the Core called “Looking Ahead”. Beth does a great job of giving the 30,000 foot view of high school and beyond. She does not give Worthington specific information (that will come in late January directly from the high school), however, she does give parents/guardians a lot to think about. This is an optional presentation but is often well attended. Please register below:
We are now accepting registrations for a special presentation entitled Looking
Ahead™: Planning for Success in High School and Beyond on December 10, 2024,
beginning at 6:30 pm. This 90-minute interactive webinar will cover a wide
variety of topics including high school scheduling options, graduation
requirements, standardized testing for college admissions, self-assessment, and
more! Beth Probst, founder and CEO of At The Core LLC, will present the
program. To register for the program, go to: https://bit.ly/LA121024.
At The Core LLC is a Central Ohio-based organization that was founded to serve
students and their families nationwide as they prepare to make the very
important decisions that surround their transition from high school to their
future.

Getting on Infinite Campus & Schoology
Infinite Campus, and especially the Parent App, is a great way to keep track of your student's grades. Instructions can be found here.
Schoology is a great place to look at the upcoming due dates for your student. You can always have your student sign on and take you through, or you can get Family Access. Instruction on how to do this can be found here.
School Lunch / Free & Reduced Fees Application
Worthington Schools offers breakfast and lunch to students. Pricing for meals will be based on family eligibility. New Meal Applications are required for families every school year. Families may find the online Free/Reduced Lunch Eligibility Form HERE. All students use their Lunch ID for meals. The student's number can be found in the Parent Portal by selecting the Student ID tab and then look for their student's Lunch PIN.
Families may add money to their lunch account through My Payments Plus. They may also use My Payments Plus to track their student's account and see much money remains on it. My Payments Plus is also used to pay other fees, like high school parking permits and AP testing fees.

Ms. Rob's Ramblings
This, right here, is why our EL students are my heroes. I will likely never know what it is to move to a new country and try to learn that language, but it does not take great imagination to empathize with how challenging it would be. And yet, these kids show up; often with a smile on their faces. They learn English at rates unheard of in American history and they make their way in their educational journey. I am deeply impressed with these kids and their families and feel grateful to have them be part of our Perry community.
