First Day of School- Wednesday, August 21st 8:45am-1:45pm
Class/Teacher Placements
***Reminder- There are many contributing factors that go into the making of classes. The personality of the student and teacher, how many students are receiving additional services, how many boys and girls are in the class, the academic levels of the students, the behavior levels of the students, additional services students need, which students had a tough time getting along with specific students the previous year, which kids socialize more when they're around specific students, the involvement level of the parents, the personalities of the parents etc...
Therefore, we don't accept change requests. Any changes would not only affect the child and the teacher's classroom they're moving to, but it also affects other students, the schedule of the support needs of students, the culture of the new class, and may have an effect on the teachers schedule itself.
We suggest for parents to do a few things if they have concerns:
1.) Meet with the teacher with an open mind to voice your concern. Be very specific.
2.) Understand that in elementary school we're preparing children to be able to adapt to multiple teachers with different personalities. This is excellent for the social development of the child.
3.) Establish a communication plan with the teacher in regards to providing updates on the area(s) of concern.
4.) Most importantly, understand that we all have the same goal; for your child to receive a stellar education, in a safe and nurturing environment, and for them to reach their full potential.

Welcome Back Message from Principal Chabola!!
Welcome Back Lin Howe Sea Dragons!!!
As we begin the 2024-2025 school year we are excited to see the beginning of many more updates due to the passing of our district's Facility Bond Measure E. The focus in the district this summer were to update bathrooms. We were ahead of the curve and were able to update the floors in 6 of our bathrooms. We have been able to update toilet seats and are working on a solution to an identified issue with gaps in the bathroom stalls. Be on the look out as we continue to reach out for input on needed campus upgrades. We continued to update our learning spaces as we will have additional speech and language staff on our campus this year.
This summer I spent a lot of time away from Culver City enjoying family and friends. The most inspiring thing I witnessed this summer is when I visited by daughter in New York. To see how she manages all the various public transportation options available at all times of the day and night. She dragged my wife and I all around, from walking, to buses, and of course subways. While on my visit I got to visit the 9/11 museum. I had visited the memorial on a number of occasions, but this was my first visit to the museum. I was a 3rd grade teacher here at Lin Howe on the day of September 11, 2001, and I can still tell you the student that was late that day, due to watching the coverage on TV. I also had the honor of working in the lacrosse community with the uncle of Welles Crowther, a person that sacrificed his life on that day to help save others. He is known as the "Man in the Red Bandana". Their is a ESPN short documentary about him as well as two books written about him (one for older individuals and one for younger). The museum was very moving.
We will be working from a new Science and Social Studies curriculum this year. We will also be offering after school Spanish classes through our after school Cornucopia program (be on the look out for more information). We will continue implementing “What I Need” (WIN) time into our classrooms. WIN time is intended to have a set amount of time in which students receive instruction to meet their needs. This could look like small group reteaching, small group acceleration, or small group intervention. This year we will continue with our Fundations focus in TK-3rd grade systematic phonics instruction, as well as the teaching of cursive again. In addition to the iReady adaptive math program, we will also be using the iReady Reading this year. These programs give us a lot of information on how to meet each of our students' individual needs. They also allow for acceleration for students that need more challenging subject matter. Math facts will continue to be a focus throughout our classrooms. And we will continue with building communities and offering leadership opportunities for our students.
We will continue on our work around inclusive practices from last year that focused on co-teaching in the classrooms. With support from a district wide inclusion specialist and the hard work of our entire staff we will continue to strive to meet all of our students needs.
We are looking forward to welcoming our new students, new families, and new staff members. The building of relationships will continue to happen in the classroom, across a grade level, across our site, across our staff, and extend to our families and community.
As your proud Principal, I hope that you know that as we begin this year,
We are looking for the "Green Flags" in each other
- They Celebrate Our Wins
- Remember Small Things About Each Other
- They Respect Each Other
- Make You Feel Energized After Seeing Each Other
- Listen To Each Other
- Allow You to Be Your Full Self
- Make You Feel Safe
- Support Your Goals
My commitment to all of you is to continue working meaningfully each day for our students, staff, and families for our beloved Lin Howe Community. Looking forward to a great year!
WE ARE.....LIN HOWE!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Casey Chabola
