A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families,
Rye Elementary School is presently registering Kindergarten and Grade 1 (new students entering RES only) students for the 2024-2025 school year. Our Kindergarten program is a full day program. It is important that all students register so that we can plan classes for next year. We are already in the planning and budgeting process so please register right away.
You can register at:
https://sau50.powerschool.com/public/formbuilder/form.html?formid=2327135.
Once approved, you will receive instructions on how register for Power School and complete
forms online.
Please register early. Details are online at the RES webpage. http://res.sau50.org/
Students chronological age will be age 5 to enter kindergarten or age 6 to enter Grade 1
on or before September 30 of the year the student plans to enter school. There will be Kindergarten Orientation information announced in the spring, as well as details regarding kindergarten screening.
Warmly,
Michelle Pitts
PAJAMA COZY DAY!
TOMORROW the whole school earned PAJAMA or COZY day (clothing only:)! We earned our empathy pom poms, on to PERSEVERANCE!
GCS Gym
Over the winter break, a sprinkler malfunction damaged the Greenland Central School’s gym floor, which now has to be completely replaced. The impact of this repair on a kindergarten through grade 8 school is significant, but they are able to provide in-school programs for their students.
However, their basketball teams no longer have a space to play home games. In the spirit of community, Jordan Cartlidge and I are working with GCS’s athletic department and Rye Elementary School to help out as much as we can. We are cognizant that the GCS basketball players will potentially be our students’ teammates in high school, and we want to support them, and model this sense of community for our student athletes.
No RJH basketball games will be impacted except games against GCS, which will be played on consecutive days. However, some practice times or locations may have to be adjusted to provide the GCS teams a home gym on which to play. Families of student athletes will be contacted about any potential adjustments to practice schedules.
We are confident that the RJH community can pull together to support those future teammates and families, and allow the student athletes of SAU 50 to compete and build the skills that are so vital to school sports: showing effort and a positive attitude.
Report Cards
We are looking forward to the growth and learning ahead in 2025. January is a month of renewal and setting goals. It is also the month that parents receive their child's first report card! Both staff and families have expressed a need for a more family friendly document since I arrived in 2022. Our team has been working collaboratively on a newly formatted report card to achieve the following goals:
1. Create formatting consistency in grades K-4.
2. Categorize the standards for clearer messaging (ex: geometry vs. number and operations, literature vs. informational text).
3. Synthesize the character development section and ensure it is on the report card and not a separate document.
*This section used to be "HOWLS" (Habits of Work and Learning) and now is titled, "Learner Qualities", aligning to our district's "Portrait of a Learner".
4. Provide robust comments that highlight students' areas of growth and focus.
5. Identify that Outdoor Education and STEAM are science related classes
6. Highlight that NA simply means the skill is not "formally" assessed during a particular marking period but does not mean it is not reviewed or discussed.
7. Describe the Unified Arts programming each term so families have a more comprehensive understanding of the activities, goals and state standards being taught and achieved during these important classes each week.
This report card has been reformatted by our resident visually-pleasing formatting expert, Mrs. Scally! However, all of our teachers have met as a staff and by grade level to discuss ways we can ensure families are provided information they can both understand and discuss with their child in meaningful ways. These report cards will go home on January 31 and we wanted to provide you all with a preview of what is to come in just a few short weeks.
(Note: A tab for each grade is at the bottom!)
Quick Notes
- Children are late to school after 8:20 AM. We provide children with a late slip after this time and mark it in PowerSchool. We just wanted to remind everyone of the time, thank you!
- If your child is going to be late, picked up early or absent, PLEASE email resoffice@sau50.org or call 603-436-4731. If you email one secretary and she is absent, the other secretary will not know the change.

Little Red Hen in Spanish!: Grade 3 Families ONLY
Dear families,
Each third grade class will perform their own rendition of La Pequena Gallina Roja (The Little Red Hen in Spanish!) on Monday, January 13th from 8:30 AM - 9:15 AM in room 131. Third grade families are welcome to attend. For those who cannot make it, no worries! I will be sure to send home media from the performance.
In the event of a weather related cancellation, we will not have a snow date for this production and will choose to perform the play during the students' regularly scheduled class time.
Each third grader has a speaking role and character or production role. Please encourage your student to practice their Spanish lines. This is not official homework, but simply a nice way to make sure each student feels comfortable with their role in the play.
As always, thank you for your support at home!
Sincerely,
Señora Piper

Lunch in Our Caf
We invite one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend. This is an occasional event as we do want children to build independence and social skills in the cafeteria, a perfect time for this!
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Days for family visits are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We do not have lunch visitors on Fridays.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:10-12:35
Second Grade-12:10-12:35
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40

Spanish Reader's Theater
Take a look at these smiles! Mrs. Scally's class had fun participating in a Spanish reader's theater activity in World Language with Señora Piper on Friday. Their acting, enthusiasm and ability to interpret Spanish was impressive!
Bowling Grades 3 and 4
Students in grades 3 and 4 ended their bowling unit with a trip to Bowl-O-Rama! As you can see they bowled but they also cheered one another on as they hit one pin or all of them at once! Thank you to Bowl-O-Rama and Holly Warden for providing our students with this real life learning experience.
Dancing and Singing at Bowl-O-Rama
Our RES students know how to make everything fun and they do it with enthusiasm and a smile! These students felt the music and were getting into the groove. The DJ also played our music concert songs so we could practice and achieve goals for PE and music class at the same time!
