GWC EAGLES' NEST
OPEN HOUSE & FIRST DAY INFORMATION
B WEEK: NOVEMBER 4-8
Schools will be closed this Tuesday, November 5th for Election Day. "Voting is the expression of our commitment to ourselves, one another, this country and this world." We encourage everyone to get out and vote this Tuesday!
Feel free to share the video(s) below with your students. In "Duck for President," a disgruntled farm duck named Duck, unhappy with his assigned chores, decides to run for election against Farmer Brown, eventually becoming the farm leader. However, he soon realizes the difficulty of the job and goes on to campaign for higher office, becoming governor and eventually president. Duck discovers that even the highest position comes with a lot of hard work, leading him to return to his original farm chores where he started.
Have a great week,
Donna Thorstensen

SUPERINTENDENT & STUDENT MEMBER OF THE BOARD VISIT
SMCPS Superintendent, Dr. James Scott Smith, and Ms. Hannah Heisler, the Student-Member-of-the-Board, visited Carver last Wednesday. Dr. Smith and Ms. Heisler met with our 5th grade students to discuss how SMCPS and Carver HEAR by being Here, Engaged, Approachable, and Renewed. Our students had the opportunity to share their insights on what makes Carver unique and how, as a school, we embody the principles of HEAR.
Thank you for visiting, Dr. Smith and Ms. Heisler! We enjoyed our time with you.
SCHOOL HEALTH REMINDERS
When it is medically necessary for a student to receive medication in school, cooperation between the health care provider, the school and the parent/legal guardian is essential. In order for medication to be given during school, guidelines outlined in this linked document must be followed. Please contact Nurse Crystal if you have any questions or need clarification.
REPORT CARD INFORMATION
Report cards will be available in HAC on November 6th. Your student's progress towards end-of-year expectations will be provided on the report card. Please remember that we are at the beginning of the the school year and the goal is for students to achieve mastery by the end of the year. Click here for information about standards based report cards in St. Mary's County.
