Pride in Self, Pride in Community, Pride in Learning
The Principal's Corner
Dear Tuscumbia School Community,
Happy Friday! We have less than a week until Thanksgiving break, and I’m sure everyone is ready for the additional time off school. I don’t know what your family traditions are this time of year, but next weekend will consist of eating delicious food, napping, and putting Christmas decorations up in my house. I absolutely love this time of year and am excited to have some additional time to spend with my family. I hope everyone is able to enjoy some much needed down time next week! Just a reminder that we do have school Monday and Tuesday of next week, but will be out Wednesday - Friday.
We have an exciting opportunity for our senior students next week. They will be participating in the Reality Check event sponsored by Central Bank. Think the game of Life, but played out live. This will be an amazing opportunity for seniors to get an idea of what life outside of school looks like. They will be involved in choosing a career and having to live off the money that specific career earns. Paying bills and handling those unexpected expenses will be part of their Reality Check experience also. We have several community members coming in to be part of this event to make it as life-like as possible. We are very excited for our seniors to have this opportunity! Thank you, Central Bank, for organizing this for us!
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kirtley
Principal
This Week at MCR3
5th grade ELA has been reading non fiction texts about the history of
Thanksgiving and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
To finish the unit, the class made their very own balloons and got to
participate in a parade!
5th grade has also learned about the 3 branches of government by playing
Rock, Paper, Scissors--what a fun way to learn!
8th grade went to Eldon Career Center to check out their programs this week
Mrs. White's Floral Design class had a great trip to Mizzou to visit the
Tiger Gardens Floral Shop and Greenhouses. They had lots of fun and educational
experiences. They even learned how they paint the infamous paw print poinsettias
Thank you Joe from Three Rivers Electric Cooperative for presenting to our
5th Graders. We had a blast!
We started our high school basketball season this week! #LionPride
First tip off of the season at the Crocker Jamboree.
Both teams gave us exciting games at Climax Springs Friday night!
Book Blast Results
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Book Blast--here are the results:
- We raised $5,088! This means every student in grades K-8 will receive 2 new books. Some students will receive more than two, but every student will have a minimum of 2 new books!
- Every teacher involved in this event qualified for a shopping spree! The $200 shopping spree winners are Ms. Davis and Ms. Wheeler. The $100 shopping spree winners are Ms. Burge, Mrs. Ahart, Ms. Scrivner, and Ms. Kidwell.
- Books will be delivered around December 12th (give or take a couple of days). We will have a big event in the gym like last year where everyone receives their books at the same time. Students who qualified to receive prizes and did not receive them already will have their prizes handed out at this time also.
- Our epic treasure chest winner is Eleah Patterson!!
A big thank you to Mrs. Kirtley for starting this event last year and putting so many books in the hands of students and in our classrooms!

Information for Getting a CDL to Drive a Bus
The process for getting a CDL is not difficult, and we will help you! Here is what you need to do:
- Take the written portion of the exam. Here is the study guide. You can get a printed copy at any testing site. You will need to take the test for School Bus, Class B with passengers. You do NOT need to test for air brakes.
- After you pass all portions, take the paper the testing site gives you to the license office and get your permit. You also have to take 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID.
- Come see us--James Luttrell is our federally approved site trainer, and he will provide your training to take the pre-check and driving portions of the test. He will also take you to the testing site when you take the test. Before he does that, we will need you to complete an application and get a fingerprint background check to ensure you are eligible to work for the district.
- After you pass your test, you will take your paperwork to the license office again with 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID and get your CDL.
- Keep all of your receipts--we reimburse for the permit, CDL, and fingerprints, and we pay for the drug testing and physical.
- As soon as you have a CDL, are approved by the Board, have a DOT physical, and pass a pre-employment drug test, you can sub bus routes and/or drive activity trips.
Are you interested in becoming a substitute teacher?
If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher and you do not have the required 36 college hours, you can do an online course that will allow you to get a substitute certificate. Here is the link to that course, and here is the link to the DESE web page that gives you more information about what you need to do to get a substitute certification. Our daily rate for subs for the 2024-25 school year will be $100/day!
