Our faculty are having another underground staff spirit week this week as we finish strong before semester break. Will our students be able to guess the theme for each day after seeing the way their teachers are dressed??? We'll see!

Our Girls Basketball team finished the season December 14th at Coronado High School in an end of season tournament. They played well, winning against Galileo Middle School, but falling to West/ACL.

Attention all families who have boys interested in playing basketball!! Our first practice will be on January 7th, 2025! All athletes must have an up to date physical! Students will have access to these during lunch time each day next week! Practice will be held in our gym from 4:00-5:15! We are looking forward to a great season of Boys Basketball!

Our partnership with the XFoundation has enabled scholarships to cover athletic fees! Don't let cost be a barrier to your child's participation in sport at Jack Swigert Middle School! If you need support with the cost for a physical, let us know. We know that the teamwork, self-regulation, discipline, and healthy exercise learned in sport is great for all of our scholars, and we want to help make it a reality for ALL!

Weekly Grade Checks will be done by the coaches and school Athletic Director every Monday.

Scholar athletes are not eligible to play if they have any Ds or Fs.

• If a student has a “D” or “F” they will be given a slip to take to their teacher to get missing work and check with teacher.
• If a Student Athlete is not eligible, they will not be allowed to play in the games for that week. If a student is placed in ISS or ISD for a period or the day, the student will not be allowed to practice or participate in the game for that day. If a student is suspended out of school, they will be removed from the team.
• Students must be at school the day of the game.
• If miss entire day = Not allowed to play in the game/match/meet
• If half day missed = Sit out 2 quarters of the game/1 match
• If 2 periods missed = Sit out 1 quarter of the game/Subs in
• If students know they are going to be absent from school, they must communicate with coaches.
• Students must also be at practice the day before a game/match/meet, or they sit out from the game/match/meet.
• If students are going to miss practice, they must let the coaches know ahead of time and get it approved.

✨ Adventure, community, and unforgettable moments! Our partnership with the Colorado College Leadership in the Mountains group got festive this week as students attended a holiday party to create decorations, decorate cookies, and enjoy with their Colorado College student mentors.

Thank you to all the families who attended our 2nd quarter Title Night! Every student who attended got to choose a free book from the book fair. Families played math games and took prizes home with them, including math games to play at home to support students' math learning!

Students and staff had a great time at our student-designed, planned, and run Northern Lights Glow Dance on Friday, 12/13. We had ZERO discipline issues and enjoyed seeing our students dance in a joyful, exuberant, and inclusive environment! Below is a picture of our CLDE (Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Education) teachers from the photo booth at the dance!

8th grade students participated in a flower dissection in their science classes to hone their dissection skills. This hands on learning is a creative way to explore the vascular system and plant biology! The students unanimously agreed that the flowers smelled better than the frogs.
