💛 Message from the Principal 💛
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to commend our students, teachers, and staff for their hard work and dedication. The second-to-last week of school is always bustling with activity, from wrapping up projects and preparing for final exams to celebrating our achievements throughout the year. Let's continue to support each other and finish strong! Remember to stay focused, participate in the remaining events, and enjoy these last days with your friends and teachers. We are almost there—let's make the end of this school year truly memorable!
This week, we are offering extra tutoring opportunities, separated by grade level, to help all Vikings be prepared for Final Exams. Be sure to take advantage of these tutoring days so you can succeed and finish the year strong. Check out the schedule posted below for more info!
Let's make it a great week, Vikings!
Grade Specific Tutoring Support available this week!!
Congratulations to our SUHSD Excellence Award Winners!!
Last Thursday, six of our Mar Vista Academy stakeholders were honored at the SUHSD Excellence Awards for English Language Learning. They were nominated by Viking Admin for the categories listed below. We are so proud of them and we are grateful they are Vikings!!
Students:
Valentina Osuna (pictured second from the left) demonstrates excellence in promoting language acquisition because she is always showing determination to improve, as well as asking how to improve. She learns from her mistakes and has fun learning, yet also takes her English language acquisition seriously. She is also a pleasure to have in class and demonstrates great leadership skills and represents English learners for the campus.
Vaney Reyes Mora (pictured on the left) is a very hard-working student. In any assignment she is given, she goes above and beyond the expectations. She attends tutoring to get help with her assignments when needed. She is so vested in learning English, and all of her efforts are appreciated.
Parents:
Ana Moreno (mother of Estephany Cisneros): Mrs. Moreno (pictured on the right) has volunteered as the MVA ELAC President. She supports the school at all times and regularly attends parent meetings, Coffee with the Principal, and workshops.
Michelle Click (mother of Devin Savary): Ms. Click (not pictured) has volunteered as the MVA DPAC Representative, as well as being a member of the School Site Council. She is also a regular attendee and active participant at parent meetings.
Staff:
Mrs. Malo (not pictured) utilizes research based strategies to support the English Learners in her ELD classes. She also makes herself available to provide language and academic support to her students throughout the school day.
Mrs. Romo (pictured second from right) incorporates technology and visuals to support language acquisition in her Fundamentals and English classes. She promotes academic improvement while also incorporating social emotional learning in her lessons. In addition, she conducts targeted interventions with a group of students from English classes who all made significant improvements in their Lexile levels and on their English End of Course exams.
VAPA Showcase was a success!!
Shout out to the Drama, Strings, Beginning Band, Advanced Band, and Art classes on hosting such an amazing showcase last Thursday! Students were able to showcase their talents as performances were wonderful and the Art Gallery in the Adaptive Room was amazing!! Kudos to Mr. Greene, Mr. Caldera, Ms. Glover, and Mrs. Dow for guiding our students to this success!
Final Exams Start this Friday!
Remember that dismissal is 1:15pm on Final Exam Days!!
