Family Update - September 29, 2024
FROM THE PRINCIPALS
Dear Families,
It has been a great week! Just two weeks left in Quarter 1 - Please encourage your student to reach out to their teachers if they are not proud of their grades currently. There is still time for improvement!
We are looking forward to our Fall Pep Rally this Friday during Flex. We will be sure to share pictures with you! We are excited to have started competition with Hastings as our fall season comes to a close. Go Jones Bears!
We hope you are having a restful and enjoyable weekend with your students! Thank you, always, for your support of Jones!
Warm regards,

PICTURE MAKEUPS & RETAKES
This week, Wednesday, October 2, is picture makeup and retake day. We realize you have not seen your child's pictures from August - HR Imaging said they emailed parents this week the August photo that was taken of your child. Based on that, you can decide if you want to have your child's pictures retaken or not.

ATTENTION 8TH GRADE PARENTS
It's finally here! The MANDATORY parent and student meeting is this coming Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 7:30 pm in the JMS auditorium. This is a required meeting and a parent/guardian must attend with the student going on the trip. Students must sit with their parents. You will hear some details about the trip, learn about the registration process, and complete a required form. PLEASE BRING A PEN! The meeting will last approximately 45 minutes. If you have questions, please contact Frau (Christy) Charlton: ccharlton@uaschools.org.
If you are absolutely unable to attend the meeting at Jones on 10/1, please attend the meeting at Hastings on 10/2 at 7:30. If you could let me know that you are doing so, I would really appreciate it. ccharlton@uaschools.org
See you on Tuesday!
FAMILY SUPPORT - FOOD RESOURCE
For a second year, the district is partnering with the Tri-Village Packers (TVP), a group of community volunteers who work to reduce food insecurity in Upper Arlington. Families with UA students can register throughout October and early November to receive grocery items that supplement their pantries during the upcoming Thanksgiving break. This is not a Thanksgiving meal but support to offset food insecurity by providing breakfast and lunch items during the extended break from school.
Last year, TVP provided food for more than 90 students during Thanksgiving break, and we believe there will be a greater need this year.
Please review and share the linked flyer and registration form weekly through November 1st. In the coming weeks, forms and flyers will be shared in additional channels and languages. Please reach out to Kristyn Anderson at kmanderson@uaschools.org if you have any questions or need support in a particular situation related to this program.
SCIENCE FAIR OPPORTUNITY
Jones Middle School students are invited to participate in the Barjo Science Fair! This exciting event, open to all K-8 students from both Jones Middle School and Barrington Elementary, will be held on February 6, 2025. Jones Middle School students can also participate at the district fair and, if they do well there, can qualify for the State Science Day and an opportunity to compete for nearly $400,000 in scholarships and awards -- many of which are directed toward middle school students specifically.
For more information, visit barjosciencefair.com.
We’re hosting an initial Zoom webinar on Wednesday, September 25, at 8:00 pm for Jones parents and students who want to learn more about how to participate in the Barjo Science Fair. Join us at https://go.osu.edu/zoom-fowler to get all the details about the fair, project guidelines, and important dates.

ANNUAL GOLDEN BEAR FUNDRAISER
Thank you to everyone that has donated to this years Golden Bear Spirit annual fundraiser at Jones so far. We are grateful for all of our sponsors and those of you that have purchased a limited edition bear or bear pack. This is our only PTO fundraiser during the school year. We greatly depend on the success of this fundraiser to be able to continue providing support to our students and our school community. Please consider participating!
This year our fundraiser will run from September 30 - October 14. There is still plenty of time to join the fun as a sponsor or by purchasing a bear pack. We have 3 sponsorship levels (Platinum, Gold and Black, all with different benefits) and several other ways to participate and contribute. You can "bear" a friend, neighbor, family member, etc. They do not have to be a Jones family and bears can travel anywhere in UA! As we continue to work on finding generous sponsors, please help us get the word out about our fun bear packs that travel around the community. We are very excited to start seeing our bears move around Upper Arlington!
If you haven't done so already, please consider supporting this very important initiative for our school. Click this link for more information, as well as to purchase a sponsorship or bear pack https://www.jonespto.com/ golden-bear-spirit
Additionally, in the coming weeks we will be sending out a sign up for those that would like to volunteer to help move our bears. If you sign up, you will be contacted with information about when and where to move bears. Jones students can received service hours for participating.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
