Luce Notes
Principal Weekly Update to Caregivers
Final Week, Your Voice Matters!
Dear Luce Caregivers,
We are in our final week! Please take a moment to complete the Luce caregiver survey today! Let’s work together to surpass a 60% completion rate this year, Luce community!
So far, 298 families have participated—thank you for your support! That’s approximately 59% of our families; we are 2% away from reaching our goal of over 60%. That means we only need 10 more caregivers to complete the survey.
Based on the current data, Kindergarten is still in the lead for total responses. Go, K families! Second grade is the runner up! Fourth grade is in third place! Which grade will take the top spot this week? Let’s make it happen, Luce!
Thank you for helping us achieve this goal. We appreciate your time and effort!
What: Luce Fall Caregiver Survey
When: November 19th through December 20th, by 5 pm
Purpose: The purpose of this survey is to gather valuable feedback from caregivers regarding recent educational experiences. The patterns and trends identified from the data will help us improve day-to-day operations, inform strategic planning, and guide professional goal setting, as well as contribute to the development of our School Improvement Plan and Action Steps.
Celebrations & Key Actions from Last Year’s Data:
Over 60% of families (the highest response rate since its inception) completed the caregiver survey last year!
The data helped us create a communication survey to improve our communication with families and ensure that all multilingual families had access to school communications.
It also informed our School Improvement Plan (SIP), focusing on initiatives such as providing small-group instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Now What?
To ensure an accurate representation of the survey results, we ask that one caregiver per family please complete the survey. If you have more than one child at the Luce and you feel that their/your experience is different enough to have different survey responses, you are encouraged to complete one survey per child
Special Challenge: The grade with the highest completion rate will earn a special lunch party with Principal Lamour!
The results will be analyzed and shared at the January Luce School Council meeting. If you have any specific questions or concerns, or if you would like to address an urgent issue, please reach out to your principal directly.

Reposts From Previous Smores!
School Parking Lot Concerns
We ask that you refrain from parking in the fire lane at the entrance of the driveway or near the stop sign in the parking lot. I’ve noticed some unsafe practices during drop-off and pick-up times. Our priority is to ensure a safe environment for all, especially for our students.
Arrival/Drop-off Safety Reminders
- Please remain in your car during drop-off unless you are parked in a designated space.
- Do not leave your car idling.
- For students in grades 2-5, please pull up to the front entrance.
- For students in kindergarten and 1st grade, please pull up to the K doors.
- Never let your child out on the side of traffic.
- Drive no faster than 5 mph in the parking lot.
Thank you all for your continued efforts to ensure the safety of our students during arrival and drop-off.
Please read this week's Smore for additional information about upcoming events.
School Safety Update
To enhance the safety of our students, your children, and our staff, we ask for your cooperation with a few important procedures:
Please Do Not Hold Doors Open: You may have noticed new signs at our entrances requesting that visitors do not hold doors open for others. Please refrain from doing so, as it helps maintain building security.
Early Dismissals: If you are picking up your child early, they will meet you at the front doors for dismissal.
Picking Up a Sick Child: If your child is feeling unwell, please proceed to the nurse's office for pick-up.
We appreciate your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Digital Learning Update: Hour of Code & Computer Science Education Week.
Students have been learning vocabulary and concepts related to coding. They are applying those concepts in different platforms.
1st and 2nd graders have participated in coding lessons from Seesaw, used Scratch Jr, and have previewed the app Kodable. They are practicing using vocabulary like “algorithm” and “sequencing.” In 3rd-5th grade, students have engaged in lessons from code.org that dig deeper into loops and programming sprites with behaviors and events.
Spotlight on Third Grade
3rd graders engaged in an unplugged lesson to work with algorithms. Students “programmed” a robot to build cup stacks using symbols and algorithms.
After learning the code and following algorithms, students then designed their own cup stack and tried writing an algorithm for someone else to follow.
