Principal's Message
Dear Hiawatha Community,
Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a wonderful and healthy school break. The kids transitioned back nicely. It was so nice to see so many smiling faces and both students and staff happy to be back!
We are looking forward to our Community Dinner on Friday, January 24th. This is a free event where we feed you and your family! We hope this provides an opportunity to take some stress off your plate and get to know others in our community better. We will be serving pasta, salad, bread and dessert!
Have a great weekend,
Katherine

Message from Mrs. Safer in Music
The new year is bringing new learning and activities in the music classroom! Kindergarten and Grade 1 students are working on their singing skills and will begin to learn about fast and slow in music. They love playing singing games and exploring musical movement! Second graders will focus on ensemble work, layering various instruments together while singing. This is a melodic and rhythmic challenge, and they are ready for it! They are also learning a fun folk dance called Alabama Gal. In third grade, students are preparing to learn the recorders. They are excited to take on this musical challenge!
Outside the music room... The Greater Burlington Children’s Chorus is thrilled to welcome new and experienced singers in 2nd-8th grades for a fantastic new semester of singing and musical learning! Rehearsals will take place on Mondays from 4:00-5:15 pm beginning on January 13. The GBCC offers children an opportunity to develop their musical skills in a fun, welcoming environment as we celebrate the power of choral music to foster beauty, culture, and community. For more information and sign-ups, please visit greaterburlingtonchildrenschorus.org or email gbcchorus@gmail.com.

Message from our PTO
As the great and wise Spiderman once said “with great power comes great responsibility.” You could say something similar about Parent Teacher Organization events, “with meaningful events, comes a list of important tasks to complete, “ i.e: these things don’t happen without the help of the adults in our community.
Please consider signing up to donate items, ideas or time for our upcoming Spring Dance on Friday March 21st 5:30-7 PM.

Don’t forget, PTO Meetings are where decisions are made. We need help coming up with a theme for the upcoming dance, and voting on which items we will give to our teachers from their wish lists. Please join us on Tuesday, January 14th at 6 PM. Showing up is an easy, low pressure way to contribute.
