Message from the Principal
Dear Hilhi Families,
We are in the middle of May and end of the year celebrations have begun! This week our seniors are invited to attend prom Saturday night and on Monday the 20th they will share the senior projects they've been hard at work on. We'll celebrate our bilingual graduates and students exiting our English Language Learner program on Friday the 24th. Next week also kicks off our annual Mayfete spring celebration with the Mayfete Assemblies on Monday and ending with our Spartquake festival on June 4th.
It's also time ensure students are on track to finish the semester strong. Midterm Quarter 4 grades are now posted, so please take time to log into ParentVue and have a conversation with your child about their grades. Start by letting them know what you are most proud of and find out what support they need to be their best. We are offering Credit Crunch study time for all students on Thursday, May 16th from 3:45-8:00 and after school tutoring continues each Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the month. Students can also seek support on Thursdays and Fridays during Spartan Academy.
Seniors and families of seniors, it is vital that you are reading notices about yearend and graduation requirements. We don't want anyone to miss out on important details and opportunities. Please take time to read and ask questions if you have them. We look forward to partnering with you to celebrate the accomplishments of each graduating senior.
Enjoy the sun and celebrations!
My Best,
Cary Meier
Principal
Spring Credit Crunch
As we near the end of our second semester, your grade-level support team would like to invite you to our spring session of Credit Crunch on May 16th! Credit Crunch is an opportunity for Hilhi Students to have focused support to complete credits and coursework before the deadline for grades. We will provide dinner, snacks, tutoring, and supervision from 3:45pm to 8:00pm. We ask that our students please use the sign up form posted to their google classrooms.
Homework Club sessions are still being held Tuesdays and Thursdays until 5pm in the library until the end of the school year if you are needing to get some work done after school.
If you know a member of the community (a past teacher, a coach, mentor, etc.) who would like to volunteer and or tutor, please refer them to Ms. Noemi Canales, graduation coach.
Please feel free to reach out to your grade level graduation coaches with any questions you may have.
Thank you, Go Sparts!
Summer School
Hilhi will be offering summer school for students who need to make credits that are needed to graduate. Summer school will be twelve days and begin on June 17th and run until July 3 (July 19th is holiday), and it will be from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM each day. Students can sign up for the entire day (8:30-4:00), or they can choose to attend just the morning session (8:30-12:00) or just the afternoon session (12:30-4:00). Transportation will be provided for any student who needs it and signs up before May 20th, and breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students.
Information about student’s current grades and previous incompletes can be found on ParentVue and Studentvue. Parents/guardians should reach out to a Hilhi counselor with any questions about summer school

Wearing Items of Cultural Significance in Graduation Exercises (policy IKFB-AR)
Examples of items of cultural significance include, but are not limited to eagle feathers worn by students who identify as Native American, flower lei or maile lei worn by students who identify as Asian Pacific Islander, and stoles made of culturally significant fabric/cloths.
In determining whether to wear items of cultural significance during graduation exercises, students and families should consider cultural appreciation versus cultural appropriation. Cultural appreciation is the celebration of one’s own culture or connecting cross-culturally while seeking to understand and learn. Cultural appropriation entails exploiting or taking an aspect of a culture that is not your own and using it for your own personal interest.
Reminders about behavior and attendance:
Graduating 12th graders’ last day of school is June 4th, all 12th graders are required to attend all classes until their last day.
12th graders who do not complete all graduation requirements by June 4th should continue to attend classes until the last day of school for all students on June 15.
If a 12th grader is suspended during the 4th quarter may forfeit their opportunity to walk in the Hilhi graduation ceremony on June 6th.
