A Word From the Director, Nathan Jochum.
As I write this, we are exactly one month away from Spring and we can all agree that weโre ready for the warmer temperatures, the longer days, and more opportunities for programming, events, and happenings at the library. Itโs been a brutal winter, and I think we all look forward to our Spring events, like bringing back the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale (April 4-5), and the Silent Auction during National Library Week (April 6-12) and other programming for all ages. Until then, keep attending our amazing programs like Bark & Read: Dunkinโs Reading Corner, for the kids, thanks to the Tell City Police Department, to the offsite Rosรฉ & Romance Book Club for the adults at Bottom of the Barrel. Donโt forget to stock up on those books, eBooks, or audiobooks for those remaining frigid days, but donโt worry, Spring is right around the corner.
Read Across America & Dr. Seuss's Birthday!
Read Across America Week is celebrated from March 2 to 6 โ it begins on the birthday of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss. The entire month of March, in fact, is dedicated to reading. The National Education Association (N.E.A.) aims to encourage reading and educate people about its benefits, especially among children and young adults. Events are organized across the nation by schools and organizations to promote the same.
St. Patrick's Day - March 17, 2025
St. Patrick's Day in 2025 will be on Friday, March 17. It's a day to celebrate Irish culture and heritage through parades, festivities, and green-themed events. But why do Americans celebrate St. Patrickโs Day so enthusiastically? Part of the reason lies in the countryโs rich history of Irish immigration. Millions of Irish immigrants came to the U.S. in the 19th and early 20th centuries, bringing with them their customs, traditions, and the celebration of ths day Day. Over time, the holiday has become a symbol of pride for the Irish-American community and a celebration of the United Statesโ cultural diversity.

Clover Lawns
When you usually see clovers you might think of St. Patrickโs Day, or bees, or maybe you even think about Thumper and how he prefers to only eat the flowers. Clover is much more than the patches of โweedsโ you see in your yard.
Clover is a part of the legume family (yes like beans!), and weeds canโt compete with the thick roots, so youโll be using less herbicide in your lawn. Clover is also drought-resistant, so when the rain stops, it still stays nice and green! The most common type of clover that we see growing in Perry County is Microclover, it grows lower to the ground (4-6 inches) and is denser than other types of clover. Making Microclover both resistant to foot traffic, and it doesnโt need to be mowed as often as traditional grass. And as we all know, we need to save the bees. Clover is great for attracting pollinators, which is especially great for both flower and vegetable gardens!
Next time you see a patch of clover and think itโs just weeds, think again, and maybe stop and see if you can find a little luck! How many four leaf clovers can you find in this picture?
