Report Potholes
The snow may be behind us, but crews will be working to address potholes. Potholes form as melting snow and ice seep into the pavement, then freeze and expand, causing gaps to form. Oce the ice melts, the fractured pavement cannot support the weight of passing cars, causing potholes.
We encourage our residents to report a pothole whenever they see one. Once they are reported, we do our best to fill them. The City does not maintain Main Street. If you are calling to report a pothole on Main Street you will need to contact the Idaho Transportation Department.
Potholes can be reported to City Hall at (208) 934-5669 or by emailing info@goodingidaho.org

🚒 Message from Fire Chief Steven Bishop
Fire extinguishers are a great life safety tool to have in your home, shop, and workplace. Extinguishers can help keep a fire small rather than it from becoming large and out of control. It's important to properly know how to use one. If you would like more information or would like to learn how to properly use one please contact your local Fire Department!
Message from Public Works Director Larry Bybee
Water
Join us on February 18th between 5-6 PM here at city hall as we display the findings of our most recent facility planning study. The effort looks at the current water system and evaluates its needs now and into the future. The city’s engineer, Keller Associates, will be here to explain the findings and answer any questions. We value your input as we plan our capital improvement projects. These studies are conducted between 5 and 10 years to keep pace with where work needs to be done to ensure our drinking water supply safe and plentiful. The city received a $40,000, 50% matching grant from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality to conduct the study.
River Wall Update
Progress is being made behind the scenes! We hope to be ready for a public meeting by mid-year for the Army Corp to roll out the preliminary design. This project is being done using the “Design-Build” model. This allows great flexibility for the selected contractor to control cost and manage the work. The city would like to thank all those involved in making this even possible. The project has been stalled for nearly 25 years due to the budgetary challenges it posed. What changed was our Idaho State Legislators pushing it forward, a huge thank you goes out to Congressman Mike Simpson, Senator Mike Crapo, Senator Jim Risch, Idaho State Governor Brad Little, the United Staes Army Corp of Engineers, and many others who supported our community! We owe a special thanks to the Idaho Water Resource Board for their financial support, they provided the city with a $4 Million dollar grant to cover our 10% cost share match of the $40 Million dollar project! Without their financial help the project would have either not been done, again or, our community would have faced making a tough decision, go in debt for it or let it fail again. Thankfully we do not need to worry about that.
Bike Park
Install date for the Bike Park is tentatively scheduled for May 15th. Our crews will be placing gravel for the entrance, abandoning the sprinkler system in that area, and prepping the ground where the features will be built ahead of the installation by the bike park contractor.
Message from Mayor Diane Houser
Hello, citizens of Gooding.
It has definitely been a cold couple of weeks here in southern Idaho, and I can’t believe how little snow we’ve had. However, as long as the mountains receive the necessary snowfall, that's what matters most. We need to fill up our reservoirs to ensure we have enough water.
Also, please remember to let your water run at night to prevent your pipes from freezing during this cold weather. We have received numerous reports of frozen pipes.
I want to express my sadness at the retirement of our streets supervisor, Mitch Rogers. He has been an outstanding employee for the city for the past 37 years. After such a long time, it feels like one of your children leaving for college or getting married. Mitch has dedicated many years to this community, and we will truly miss seeing him at the shop or in the office. So, Mitch, we will miss you, and we hope you come to visit us in the office now and then. Enjoy your summer camping and driving Lonnie crazy!
On that note, I would like to introduce our new streets supervisor, Matt Presnell. He has worked for the city for the last 17 years and has trained closely with Mitch over the past few years to prepare for this role. Patrick Scott will step up as the lead. Good luck, guys!
The broadband project in Gooding is progressing well. They will start burying the cable in the ground in early spring, which will take about one to two months to complete. This will provide every home in Gooding City with access to wireless and faster internet.
The city will hold a State of the City Address at the Gooding Senior Center on February 18th at 11:45 AM, and also at the Gooding Chamber of Commerce meeting at Zeppes on February 20th at 12:00 PM. If you are interested in learning about what has been happening and what is planned for the future of Gooding, please join us.
I know many of you have been wondering about the construction on Main Street across from Turners, where the taxidermy shop was located. Officially, I don’t have any information, but I have heard that Farmers Bank may be building a branch there. Only time will tell.
Just a reminder, Gooding City Hall will be closed on February 17th in observance of Presidents’ Day.
I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Enjoy the beautiful flowers and don’t indulge in too much chocolate!
God bless and stay safe!
Closed for President's Day
