St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 6 | 5 JUNE 2025
“Be, Lord Jesus, a bright flame before me, a guiding star above me, a smooth path below me,
a kindly shepherd behind me: today, tonight, and forever. Amen”
Dear Parents and Carers
This week we gather as a school community to celebrate the Feast Day of our patron, St Columba. We invite all families to join us for a special liturgy at 9:00am tomorrow, as we come together in faith and gratitude for the example of St Columba in our lives.
As part of the Feast Day celebrations, students will also take part in Mission games during recess and lunch, with all proceeds going towards supporting the Bishop's Lifelink Appeal. This is a valuable opportunity for our students to live out the Gospel value of service and support those in need through their participation and generosity.
We also keep in our prayers, the first group of Year 6 students who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this Saturday evening at St Columba’s Church. This is a significant milestone in their faith journey, and we thank Fr Nino and our staff for preparing the students so well.
On Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost, marking the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. May we be open to the gifts of the Spirit in our lives and in our community.
We are pleased to welcome Ms Lauren Roberts to our staff team this term. Lauren has commenced in her new role and is already a valued addition to our St Columba’s community.
A reminder to families that students should not be on school grounds prior to 8:35am. Supervision is provided from 8:35am until the bell at 8:50am, and the playgrounds are not supervised before or after these times. We ask for your cooperation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students.
To further support student wellbeing, we ask parents to please ensure the school has up-to-date medical information for your child. This includes documentation for anaphylaxis, asthma, or any other medical conditions. If your child has a known allergy or medical condition, it is essential that we are provided with the appropriate medical action plans and medication, as prescribed by your doctor. This ensures that in the event of a medical emergency, your child can be supported appropriately and effectively. All information provided will be treated with confidentiality and shared only with relevant staff.
Lastly, please note that I will be attending a Priests and Principals Day next Tuesday, 10 June with Fr Nino. This is a valuable opportunity for reflection, collaboration, and strengthening the faith leadership in our schools.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in the education and care of your children.
God bless, and keep safe.
Allen McMahon
Principal

St Columba’s Feast Day & Bishop’s Lifelink Celebration
To celebrate St Columba’s Feast Day and the launch of the Bishop’s Lifelink Appeal all students will have the opportunity to wear free dress on Friday, 6 June (Week 6). The Y1-6 classes will begin the day with a St Columba’s Feast Day Liturgy at 9am in the Kalyara Mia.
Students are encouraged to bring in spare change as there will be Mission Game stalls organised by our Year 6 students during the afternoon. This is for the PP-Y5 students to attend, participate and win small prizes. All proceeds will go towards our Lifelink charities.
The LifeLink Foundation was established by Emeritus Archbishop Hickey in 1998.
The Foundation’s current goal is to raise a capital reserve of $10 million which will be prudently and ethically invested ‘to return in perpetuity’ an annual source of operational funding for LifeLink agencies.
On completion, the Foundation will provide LifeLink agencies a guaranteed level of funding and help them continue a tradition of caring for people in need within the Western Australian Community.
We look forward to a great day of celebrating and having fun together.
Confirmation Masses
We are excited to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our Year 6 candidates at two upcoming Masses on Saturday, 7 and 14 June at 6pm in the St Columba’s Church.
Jump Rope for Heart 2025 Finishes
The end of Week 6 (Friday, 6 June) means the conclusion of Jump Rope for Heart this year – a fantastic fundraising and physical activity program by the Heart Foundation.
By participating in Jump Rope for Heart this term, we have encouraged our students to get moving. We’ve had ropes available on the school grounds and encouraged all classes to help raise funds for lifesaving research and support programs.
Please note that while the students earn prizes for the funds raised all prizes will be collected by the school and donated to Mini Vinnies next term to support disadvantaged children.
Over the term your child has learnt new skills, increased their physical activity, and learn about heart health.
Thank you for your participation in the program for 2025.

Feast of Pentecost – The Birth of the Church
This Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, one of the most important days in the Church’s calendar. Pentecost occurs 50 days after Easter and marks the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, giving them the courage and strength to go out and share the message of Jesus with the world.
Often referred to as the "birthday of the Church," Pentecost reminds us of the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives today — guiding us, strengthening us, and inspiring us to live with faith, hope and love.
At St Columba’s, students will reflect on the meaning of Pentecost in their classes, learning about the symbols of the Holy Spirit — wind, fire, and the dove — and how we can be people of peace, courage and kindness in our community.
We encourage families to talk about Pentecost at home and how the Holy Spirit continues to work in our lives today.
Canteen cut off time - 8.30 am from Wednesday 28 May
Our canteen is very busy, and we thank families for their ongoing support. With so much to prepare on canteen days, we need to implement an 8:30 am cut-off for QuickCliq orders. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept late orders. The new cut-off time is effective on Wednesday, 28 May.
Did you know you can order ahead on QuickCliq? This handy feature allows families to place orders days - or even weeks - in advance.
Canteen is available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Kindy students are able to order lunch (but not recess).

We are back at it tonight—Dogs vs Hawks at 5:30PM under the Marvel roof. Don’t forget to lock in your tips early!
Good luck for Round 13—and remember, it’s not just about tipping winners… it’s about tipping better than your mates.
