Principal Weekly Update to Caregivers
Principal Lamour Update
Dear Luce Caregivers,
I hope you’re enjoying a wonderful long weekend! Tomorrow, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As we reflect on his impactful legacy, I’m reminded of one of his profound quotes:
"Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education."
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
To me, this quote emphasizes that education is not just about academic achievement but also about fostering critical thinkers, kindhearted individuals, and respectful citizens who have the power to challenge and change the status quo. Dr. King’s work inspires hope that our students can become the change agents needed to create a more equitable and just society for all. As you take time to reflect tomorrow, consider what his words mean to you and your family.
DEI Team Awarded a Second Grant!
A big shoutout to our DEI team for their dedication and hard work! They have secured a second grant of $300, which will help create even more enriching cultural opportunities for our students and caregivers. Thank you for your commitment to fostering a stronger, more inclusive school community!

Please Do Not Hold Doors Open: You may have noticed new signs at our entrances requesting that visitors do not hold doors open for others. Please refrain from doing so, as it helps maintain building security.
Early Dismissals: If you are picking up your child early, they will meet you at the front doors for dismissal.
Picking Up a Sick Child: If your child is feeling unwell, please proceed to the nurse's office for pick-up.

Nurse Bonner's Nifty Notes
January brings National Hobby Month. See if you can focus on a hobby you can do for yourself and with your kids. Our days are busy but finding a hobby you enjoy is great for your health and your children's health. It can relieve stress, challenge your brain and provide experiences for everyone outside the ever present screen time. I would love to do more cooking and go on more hikes with my family. See if you can challenge yourself this month to set some time for you and your children separately to either pick up that hobby you always wanted to do or one you already are doing if you can do it more often. I would love to hear all your adventures to get more ideas myself. Happy Hobby-ing. Here are some ideas: https://www.purewow.com/family/hobbies-for-kids

Top Secret Science!
We’re excited to once again host Top Secret Science nights on February 4th and 5th at 6:30PM. Please use the following link: Top Secret Science to reserve your spot! We can accommodate one adult per child and we ask that you please sign up in advance (*no walk-ins) as space is limited. We are looking for a volunteer each night to arrive a little early to help set up and check in families at the door. Please email LuceCAPT@gmail.com to help.
Dining for Dollars
Save The Date for our next Dining for Dollars at Elsie’s Table on Saturday, February 8th from 12-3. Elsie’s Table will be open during these special hours and donate 25% of all lunch sales to the Luce.
Luce Play Volunteers Needed! Green Room! Night Of Sales! Cast Party!
Alice in Wonderland will debut on Friday, February 28th, and Saturday, March 1st. We need many volunteers during this performance weekend. Supervising the green room during both shows is an IMPORTANT volunteer need. These volunteers can’t watch any of the show, so we’re asking for the help of parents of K-3 children so that parents of the children performing in the play can enjoy the performances. Volunteers will be gifted tickets to the other night (when they don’t volunteer). These volunteers must be CORI’d and fingerprinted. We are also looking for people willing to sell concessions and cast-o-grams both nights. Please consider signing up.
Do you like to throw a party?! We are still looking for a committee to organize the celebratory cast party to culminate all the hard work of these children. Please reach out if you’re willing to help!
New Spring Fundraiser
We are excited to announce that this year the Luce will be participating in a new fundraiser: Raise Craze!
What is Raise Craze?
Raise Craze is a meaningful, interactive fundraiser where students promise to do Acts of Kindness (AOK) and friends and family pledge donations in support of AOKs online via a secure website. Here is a video link to explain more!
Why We’re Raising Money
There are many good reasons to raise money for our school, but we’ve highlighted a few for this year’s fundraising campaign.
● Enhanced Learning Opportunities for our students, including Fun with Lasers, Top Secret Science, and Brain Games
● School Field Trips
● Supplies for our classrooms
● School plays (this year it is Alice in Wonderland)
How Raise Craze is Different?
Why did we pick Raise Craze?
There are many excellent reasons, but here are a few highlights:
● Raise Craze reinforces kindness in the classroom and improves the culture of our school.
● Everyone can participate by completing AOK. No one is left out! With Raise Craze, the incentives are focused on AOKs as opposed to the financial donations achieved by children, keeping the emphasis on areas we want our students to focus on AND allowing everyone to be recognized and rewarded for their AOK
● Classroom AOKs promote team building and cooperation and community engagement
● Our school keeps 90% or more of the funds raised. Last year with Boosterthon, we raised over $40,000 as a school, however we only netted $24,000. Raise Craze guarantees a minimum of 90% profit back to the school. That makes more financial sense to us.
So What Do I Need to Do?
The fundraiser will run from February 24th through March 7th. Materials will be going out in the coming weeks explaining how to register your student. In the meantime, if you are interested in helping out, please access our signup genius to volunteer to help track AOKs,support AOK activities at school and celebrate our students in the Close Out Ceremony!
We are so excited to introduce this new fundraising effort to our school community! If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up here.
Thank you for your support!
