DECA WIN TWO GOLD CERTIFICATES!!
We are EXCITED to announce our fashion marketing, retail management, and DECA students have received not one, but TWO GOLD CERTIFICATIONS for our School-Based Enterprises on campus.
Our first store that is owned and operated by students is The Jolly Roger and The Pirate Market. This class creates and executes pop-up shops, t-shirt designs, ordering, promotion and more! Our second store is owned and operated by two DECA students, The Spirit Box. This is a 24-hour vending machine. They are responsible for product, pricing, promotion and management of the vending machine. We are very excited to see these individuals take our two projects to DECA ICDC in Orlando, FL where they will compete in an INTERNATIONAL state.

LCP Family Member of the Year
JW Tabor - LCP Family Member of the Year
The administration, faculty, staff, students, and community of Lubbock-Cooper ISD thank JW Tabor for his service and dedication to the district.
JW has been a cornerstone of the Lubbock-Cooper family for an incredible 45 years. His journey with the district began when his sister-in-law mentioned that Cooper was in need of a carpentry teacher and asked if he would be interested. Little did he know, the position had already seen two teachers come and go in just two months—but that didn’t deter JW. He accepted the challenge, was hired by Jim Gordon, and thus began a decades-long career filled with passion, commitment, and an immeasurable impact on generations of students.
Beyond his role as a Building Trades teacher at Lubbock-Cooper High School, JW has worn many hats in service to the district. He drove a bus route for 29 years, worked in grounds and maintenance during summers, led night security, took tickets at football games, and served as a sponsor for various student organizations, including Student Council, SkillsUSA, and the National Student Safety Program. He has been a dedicated sponsor for eighth grade, junior, and senior classes, as well as prom.
His leadership and expertise have extended beyond the district, and he has served as the State President of the Texas Industrial Vocational Association. He is also a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, serving as part of the renowned Navy Seabees. Whether constructing projects with students, driving them to competitions, or advocating for vocational education, JW has poured his heart into shaping young lives.
When asked what makes Lubbock-Cooper special, JW doesn’t point to just one thing—because for him, it’s everything. The community, the administration, the faculty, and most of all, the students, have made his time at LCP meaningful. “The students have made it a great place to work,” he says, “or I wouldn’t have stayed this long.”
JW’s legacy is one of steadfast dedication, hands-on leadership, and an enduring love for the students he has mentored. His commitment to Lubbock-Cooper ISD is unparalleled, and his impact will be felt for generations to come. For his immeasurable contributions, we are honored to recognize JW Tabor as the
2024 LCP Family Member of the Year.
