Help us Thank our School Social Workers!
This week, we are celebrating National School Social Work Week, a time to recognize and appreciate the significant impact of our school social workers! WB Social Workers offer emotional support, guidance, and resources that foster our students’ academic and personal growth.
March is Reading Month!
The WBSD elementary teacher librarians have created a districtwide March is Reading Month Calendar of activities for families to participate in if they choose. We hope they keep up the Pine Tree reading for grades 1-5, and the 100 books to read for Kindergarten!
Interested in learning about our Magnet program?
West Bloomfield Schools would like to provide important information about our District-wide program for academically curious and imaginative students entering the third grade, the Magnet Program at Scotch Elementary School. This unique program is designed to meet the specific needs of the highly motivated learner in a rigorous multi-age class community. Students are placed into flexible groups of third, fourth, and fifth graders that vary with the curriculum taught. Students have an opportunity to stretch the boundaries of learning in a collaborative and innovative environment.

WB hosted annual African American Read-In with Oakland Schools
Oakland Schools hosted author Jacqueline Woodson for this year's African American Read-In. She's the award-winning author/illustrator of numerous critically acclaimed books for children. Thank you to the families who joined us in the WBMS iCenter for an evening of food, crafts, and reading. All received a copy of one of Jacqueline Woodson's books. Across the county, 694 people registered for the event. WB was one of 11 sites where families gathered.
Special thanks to Shahenda VanNostrand, Jania Garner and Sonja James for their assistance with this event, as well as our partners from West Bloomfield Public Library.
Oakland Early College Info Night Webinar
3/18/2025, 7 p.m., Webinar - email morrison.borders@wbsd.org for the link
At Oakland Early College, we do school differently; through our partnership with Oakland Community College, we provide an early middle college experience where OEC students are simultaneously enrolled in high school and college classes at no cost to families. All students in 9th through 11th grade whose families reside in Oakland County can apply. Here, students earn transferable college credits, up to an associate's degree, that will follow them to a four year university. There is also an option to earn a work certificate through one of OCC’s many programs. All students are supported by our tenets of college, culture, community, and connection in a small and diverse school community while they progress through our five year high school program. Learn more at our webinar March 18.
Student Support Services PAC meeting explored Individualized Educational Plans
Student Support Services thanks all those who attended the Parent Advisory Committee Meeting last week on understanding the Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) process. Partnering with staff, parents and guardians learned about the IEP components and our service delivery model. They learned about the wide range of support services available in WBSD and discussed how we can work together on plan implementation.

In Case You Missed It
Building Strength, Connection, and Confidence!
Mrs. Mason, WBHS Physical Education Teacher focused on leading full-body mobility, core strength, and individual yoga poses. This week, they took it a step further by introducing group poses. The challenge? Work together to attempt three different poses—bonus points for creativity and complexity!
Not only did students rise to the challenge with excitement, but they also embraced the importance of collaboration.
