Celebrating a Successful Book Fair!
Thank you to Jessica Bamford, who helped make our recent Book Fair a tremendous success! Students had a blast exploring the latest titles and discovering new reads to fuel their curiosity and imaginations. It was wonderful to see so many young readers excited about books! Special thanks go out to our dedicated staff for creating time for students to participate in the event. We can’t wait to see the impact these new books will have on our students’ learning journeys.
Basketball Season is Here!
Our basketball season is now in full swing, and we’re thrilled to see so much enthusiasm for the sport! We hope to see as many students as possible joining in. To ensure eligibility for games, we have a few guidelines in place that students must follow:
- Academic Performance: Students must maintain passing grades. A failing grade of F in PowerSchool will affect eligibility.
- Behavior in School: Good behavior is key. Participation in sports is a privilege, and we expect all students to uphold our school’s standards.
- Attendance: Students must be present in school to participate in after-school activities. While there are some exceptions, if a student is not in attendance on the day of an event, they cannot participate that evening.
Students are able to pick up an eligibility form by the office. Students will fill out their grades from PowerSchool, then have teachers initial that the grade is accurate and allow for teachers to comment on behavior. The student will then take their eligibility form to have their parent/guardian sign before turning them into the basket in the office. Eligibility checks are due on Wednesday for games held on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. For games earlier in the week, eligibility must be checked by Monday, students are encouraged to get them done by Friday the week before.
Thank you for supporting our student-athletes and ensuring that they meet these requirements. Let’s go, Silvers!
Successful Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended conferences this Fall! It was wonderful to connect with you and share the exciting progress happening in our classrooms. Our teachers are deeply appreciative of your support and involvement, especially when it comes to having those important conversations that support our students’ growth.
Together, we’re making Seward Middle School a place where students feel supported and encouraged to reach their fullest potential.
Go Silvers!
Here’s to a fantastic basketball season and more exciting adventures for our students at Seward Middle School!
Sincerely,
Principal Scott Lefebvre

Classroom Activity
“Mr. Josh’s WIN class is reading ‘Fighter in Velvet Gloves’ and learning about Southeast Alaskan Native tribes. Several tribes in the region create totem poles to pass along family history and events, as well as through oral story. Students learned a bit about their own family’s history and drew something representative, eventually making their own class totem pole!”
Be In The Know
Canvas/PowerSchool/Facebook
Families if your student needs to stay home for any reason please have them check their classes on Canvas.
They should be able to complete work online and submit on Canvas. Students can email their teachers easily from Canvas or Gmail with questions. Here is a basic tutorial to help with navigating Canvas. Remember we are here to help!! Canvas Tutorial
Seward Middle School makes every effort to communicate with students and their families about what is happening at our school. A great source of information is our online PowerSchool program. Students and parents can access a wealth of information including class schedules, grades, attendance. Parents and students must have their own access code to use PowerSchool.

Be sure to take an active role in finding out what is happening at the middle school!
Yummy Treats
A big thank you to all the parents who bring in staff snacks on Wednesdays! Your thoughtfulness keeps our staff full and happy, and we truly appreciate your support. It makes a wonderful difference in our school community!
This spooky display of treats was brought to us by Traci B. & Elizabeth d.
Thanks for all you do!
Lunch Volunteers Needed
We are in search of parent/community volunteers to be an adult presence and friendly face during the two lunch periods at Seward Middle School that span from: 11:35-12:40pm each day.
This is a great opportunity to bring parents and caring community members into the building to connect with kids, which is a goal of Youth360, our Parent Collaboratives, and the Icelandic Prevention Model.
Also, if you aren't already an approved volunteer in KPBSD schools, please fill out the volunteer paperwork and checkboxes for ALL three of our Seward Schools to take advantage of opportunities, like this one, to support our schools and youth.
