The Fleming Family Flyer
September 26, 2024
A Note From Principal Roy
Greetings Fleming Families!
I hope this message finds you all well and staying dry! We have had such a wonderful stretch of weather, it has been a bit of a shock to the system to have a couple rainy days in a row. Today we will have our first indoor recess of the year which isn't always popular, but it can be a welcomed change of pace too. As we progress into the Fall months, it is important to keep in mind the potential weather we may have. Please be sure to send students with clothing for rainy days and colder weather. There are times that we will still go outside in the rain unless it is too messy on the playground or raining really hard.
The weather also tends to impact the volume of pick-ups after school. When it is wet or cold we typically have many more students picked up by vehicle. Please use two lanes as you come around the back corner of the building so we can fit more cars in the driveway and prevent traffic from blocking the Prospect / Summit intersection.
Please read through the information below which includes upcoming dates and a few reminders for families.
Best,
- Matt

PBIS News
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have had a wonderful start to our 2024/2025 school year! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful kids with us, it is a real privilege to meet a new group of fourth graders and to see our fifth graders back in the building.
We are a PBIS school, which stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports. For the month of September, we started our “kindness kickoff” where we, as a community, have worked hard to take care of ourselves, each other, and our community with kindness in mind. A practice of PBIS is to highlight when students engage in positive behaviors. When we see students engaging in acts of kindness, we point out their positive choices and hand them a “Falcon Feather.” Students then bring those feathers to their classroom community, and once a classroom has earned 100 feathers, they earn a classroom celebration and an egg for the school. As a whole school, once we have a specific number of eggs, we get to celebrate! So far we have enjoyed skittles explosion day where Ms. McClintock had the most amazing colorful outfit. This week we enjoyed Stuffy Day and we got to meet so many adorable stuffed animals!
Our world needs more Kindness! That’s why Kindness is how we started the school year. Our definition of Kindness is acting with understanding, generosity, and care. You’ll hear a lot about kindness this year because it is also one of the three outcomes of our SEL curriculum.
● Be Kind: Teaching social skills like listening, friendship, solving conflicts, and leadership. These skills are taught alongside Empathy, Respect, & Cooperation
● Be Strong: Skills that help students focus, stay organized, and set goals. These skills are taught alongside Responsibility, Courage, & Perseverance
● Be Well: Skills that help students handle their emotions and deal with stress. These skills are taught alongside Gratitude, Honesty, & Creativity
October’s focus is Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways and we hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together! Throughout the year we will be supporting students in being kind and respectful by helping them develop skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership. Stay tuned for monthly updates about our PBIS work at Fleming!
