Message From Principal Kinney
Happy November-
This week has certainly been busy and full of energy. I thank all of our students and staff for staying focused and working hard while balancing the excitement of Halloween week. Below is filled with lots of important information.
Otis Won: I am happy to announce I was just notified that Otis the scarecrow was the winner at the annual Cucurbit Farm scarecrow contest! We are so appreciative of all the support from staff, family, friends and community!
All the funds will benefit NAMI Central Middlesex.
Thanks again for your support!

Moc-Election: On Monday, we will be hosting a mock election. The focus of this election is not on politics or political views but on the actual voting process. We will offer candy choices instead of having presidential candidates on the ballot. Our students will go to the polls on Monday morning to check in, vote, and submit their ballots. They will receive an official "future voter" sticker as they leave. It's important to note that many of our eighth-grade students, particularly those on the older side of the grade, will be able to vote in four years during the next election. We see it as our duty to provide them, and all of our students, with voting experience.
Veteran’s Day Candy Collection: We are collecting donated candy to send to our veterans overseas. A big thank you goes to Ms. Padalino for organizing this collection. Our candy collection started today and will continue until Wednesday. On Wednesday afternoon, Ms. Padalino will load the donated goods and deliver them for shipping!
Veteran’s Day Ceremony: Our annual celebration will occur on Friday, November 8th. Below are reminders on how your student and family can participate if you have a connection to a veteran. Please resend if you have submitted a slide and have not received my acknowledgment. There were a few glitches that I believe I have resolved, but I want to ensure that I have included everyone who created a slide for our front TV display. Thank you!
From our Previous Smore Newsletter:
We are still looking for Veterans who are connected to our students and town to join us on November 8th for our annual Veteran's Day celebration. Even if you have joined us in the past, we want you here with us again! Here is the link to sign up. Veterans will be treated to breakfast-type items and coffee/drinks starting at 8:30, during which our guests can socialize with each other. Following this social gathering, we will begin our celebration, which will last about 30 minutes.
Also, if you have not submitted an "Honor A Veteran" slide, please consider doing so. This slide can be of anybody in your life who has served. Here is the link.
Pumpkin Character Book Decoration Contest: This year, 21 students participated in our first contest. Last week, the entries were sent out to the community for voting. Congratulations to Lailah S. from Grade 4 for having her pumpkin chosen as the most creative! Lailah received the very first pumpkin trophy ever awarded here at Fowler—a HUGE shout-out to all of our participants.
No School Reminders:
Tuesday, November 5th- Election Day
Monday, November 11th- Veteran’s Day
Hoods, Hats, etc: As colder weather approaches, students have been reminded that hats and hoods are not allowed in the building during the school day. While they can be worn to school, they must be removed once inside the building. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this school rule. When these items are worn, it becomes difficult to see faces in the hallways, and we want to be able to greet our students properly. Thank you for your cooperation!
Nature’s Classroom: In a few weeks, our Grade 8 students will be traveling to Nature's Classroom, followed later in the year by our Grade 7 students. You may wonder why both grades are attending this year. Due to COVID-19, the Grade 7 students who missed their trip at that time were allowed to go during Grade 8. This arrangement has continued for the last few years, but we want to return the trip back to Grade 7. To achieve this, we are doubling up this year so that we can reestablish this experience as a Grade 7 tradition. This means there will be twice as many students attending. Ms. Sullivan (Grade 7 ELA) and Ms. Travers (Grade 7 Science) have worked incredibly hard to make this happen. They have organized fundraisers to help cover costs and provide scholarships for those in need. Our mission is clear: every single child who wishes to go, regardless of their ability to pay, will have the opportunity to attend. This has always been the goal of this trip. In the coming days, you may be approached by a Grade 7 or 8 student with a fundraising opportunity from Meadow Farms. There will be plenty of great items for sale, and 35% of all sales will go back to funding our Nature's Classroom trips. I am also doing my part! I have set up an account specifically for donations. Yes, you can choose to buy "nothing" for any amount you wish to donate! When you log into my sales account, simply select "donate" from the drop-down list. This is a unique opportunity to contribute without purchasing a physical item. My personal goal is to raise $2,000. It may seem ambitious, but I believe it is achievable! Please consider donating to the Fowler Nature's Classroom Scholarship Fund. Thank you for your support!
