FCLE Sign Up Information
Students who are dual enrolled and taking POS 2041 American Federal Government this semester, please sign up to take the FCLE (Florida Civic Literacy Exam). Matanzas is offering this assessment on Tuesday April 29 from 8:00am-11:40am. The makeup date for this assessment is Wednesday April 30 from 8:00am-11:40am. The deadline to register to take this assessment at MHS is Monday April 21.

ECG Screenings for Band, JROTC and Color Guard
Free Screening Date at MHS is MONDAY 4/14 - sign up now!!!!
Per a recent revision to School Board Policy 406.1, all high school students must have an ECG prior to participation in JROTC, marching band and color guard (eurythmics). Flagler Schools has partnered with Who We Play For to offer free screenings to our students on campus during the school day on Monday, April 14th. If your child is participating in one of these activities for next school year, and you would like to sign them up for this free screening, please click the link below to register and provide consent. More information about ECGs including the required form and the submission process can be found on the MHS website.

Congratulations to Bryonna Bowdry! She broke the school record in the javelin last weekend. We are so proud of her accomplishment!
Kudos to our boys' track team! They finished runner-up in the 4x800 meter event. Their hard work and dedication have truly paid off!
Celebrations From the Week
Lady Pirates Shine! This week, both our beach volleyball and girls flag football teams secured victories against FPC, marking a successful spring season for all our spring sports against the rival.
Softball Success! The Lady Pirate Softball team won their first-ever Kissimmee Classic! With an impressive record of 16-1, they are currently ranked 2nd in the class 5A state rankings. Congratulations to our athletes for their hard work and dedication!
We couldn't be prouder of our student-athletes who continue to represent our school with pride and determination!
Free Athletic Physicals and ECG Screening Event
May 21 & 22 at FPCHS
Sign ups are open now for FREE Pre-Participation Physicals and ECG Screenings on Wednesday, May 21st and Thursday, May 22nd at Flagler Palm Coast High School. Pre-participation sports physicals are for any Flagler County student in grades 6-12. Students involved in JROTC, marching band, or other school activities requiring a physical may also participate.

Did you know MHS offers online free tutoring hosted by MHS teachers? Students can join these online sessions for math tutoring and homework help on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. This opportunity is open to all students, the link is posted on Schoology.

Dual Enrollment Registration Dates
Summer 2025 DSC Dual Enrollment Registration
Summer dual enrollment is only available to returning dual enrollment students, new dual enrollment students may not begin in summer.
Summer 2025 Deadline to Submit Registration form to your School Counselor: April 30th
Fall 2025 DSC Dual Enrollment Registration
April 3 - May 15th: Registration for Fall 2025. To be eligible for enrollment, students must have applied, tested, planned classes with a DSC advisor, and must submit a completed registration form to his or her school counselor by May 15th. The application, testing and advising process is completed directly between the student and Daytona State - for more information or assistance, see below.
Getting Started with Dual Enrollment
If you would like for your child to get started with dual enrollment, visit the Daytona State College Dual Enrollment website to: read through the complete dual enrollment handbook, apply for admissions, sign up for placement testing, orientation and advising sessions through Daytona State. All of these steps must be completed prior to reviewing your registration with your School Counselor.

Did you know that MHS has a representative from Daytona State College on campus regularly to answer student questions about all things DSC? The representative will be in the breezeway outside of the front office during both lunches on the following days and can answer questions about dual enrollment, coursework, admissions and more!

Do you still need to pass the Algebra 1 or ELA exam? If you have not yet met the English Language Arts (ELA) and Math exam test score requirements for high school graduation, you can also take the ACT, CLT and/or SAT exams to work towards meeting the concordant score needed for graduation.

Graduation Ticket Information
Additional FREE graduation tickets will be given out on May 27 during mandatory graduation practice. Students will receive 3 additional tickets at a time until everyone has enough.
Do not buy or sell tickets, but you may give any extras to other families who need them. We are very confident that we will have enough tickets for all families to have as many as they should need.

Wall of Fame Applications
Applications are open now for our MHS Wall of Fame for the class of 2025. Students may apply for one award or multiple awards, but must submit separate applications for each award that they wish to be considered for. All applications are due by 3PM on Friday, April 18th.
Citizenship Award
This award recognizes a graduate who has distinguished themselves to the community through their character and service. This award recognizes a student who exemplifies our motto of “Make Good Choices, Hold Yourself Accountable, Strive for Excellence” in all areas of their life.
Principal's Award
The Principal's Award recognizes a graduate who has distinguished themselves in the community through their leadership and impact. The Principal's Award recipient has brought positive renown to Matanzas High School and has made our school and/or community better through their leadership.
Scholarship Award
This award recognizes a graduate who has excelled in the Matanzas community through their academic achievements. This student has surpassed academic standards in their course of study and has shown dedication to scholarly endeavors and intellectual growth, both in and beyond the classroom.
Pirate Award
The Pirate Award recognizes a graduate who has distinguished themselves to the community through their school spirit and work ethic. The Pirate Award recipient has fully engaged in student life at Matanzas High School and exemplifies Pirate Pride. The Pirate Award recipient has distinguished themselves as a hard worker who has shown perseverance in their pursuit of excellence.
Senior Graduation Speeches
Each year the administration selects several graduates to speak at the graduation ceremony. The purpose of this tradition is to add student voice to the graduation ceremony and to showcase a variety of student experiences from Matanzas High School.
Any graduating senior from the class of 2025 is eligible to submit a speech for consideration. The best speeches showcase the speaker’s unique personality and voice in sharing an inspirational message or story with your graduating peers.
Speeches must be submitted by 3:00PM on Friday, April 18th.
Speeches must be under 500 words in length.
Speeches will be reviewed by administration and students will be notified the week of April 28th if their speech was selected.
Selected speakers must be available for practice sessions between May 5th and May 23rd and are required to attend speech practice at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach on May 21st at 8:30AM (transportation will be provided if needed)
