Read Across America Week March 3 - March 7!

Next week we will celebrate reading throughout our school! Students can expect a week of spirit days, a visit from Nutsy to kick off the Go Nuts for Reading program, guest readers, the March Madness book tournament, DEAR time, and reading contests. We hope you will plan to help us celebrate at our Family Literacy Night on Thursday, March 6th!

Preschool Registration

Goochland County Public Schools is accepting applications for preschool for the 2025-2026 school year! Goochland has preschool classrooms at each of its three elementary schools. These are full-day programs and transportation to and from school is provided. You can apply for preschool using this online application. Click here to learn more about our preschool programs.

Kids Heart Challenge Kick-off

This week our school had so much fun kicking off this year’s Kids Heart Challenge! Alongside this year’s heart heroes, we’re learning about healthy hearts and life lessons like getting active, asking for help, resting well and being kind. BONUS: your student will get a free wristband for joining at http://www2.heart.org/goto/Byrd_Elementary_SchoolGoochlandVA or using the AHA Schools app.

Gifted Referral Window Open

The Gifted Referral Window is now open. Parents have until the end of February to refer their child for gifted evaluation. If they have any questions they can contact Megan Donovan (mdonovan@glnd.k12.va.us) or their teacher.

Goochland Restaurant Reading Incentive Program

The Goochland Restaurant feels passionate about encouraging reading throughout our community! They are sponsoring a reading incentive program that is similar to the BOOK-IT Program many adults loved once-upon-a-time! Goochland students will receive a bookmark to track their reading. Once students have read 8 books, then they can turn the completed bookmark into the Goochland Restaurant in exchange for a free drink AND their choice of fries, onion rings, or a cookie! The best part is that students are not limited to just one bookmark! They can complete multiple bookmarks!

BES Math Night - Coming in April!

BES will host a Family Math Night paired with the Spring Book Fair on 4/16 from 5PM-7PM (More details to come). Families, we need your help! Please sign up to help us make the night successful!

Helpful Links & Info

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us. If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. Please make sure you have all transportation changes in prior to 1:00 PM, this allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
