Safety Reminder:
Just a reminder to all families entering Peninsula School to please buzz in at the front door and check in at the office. For the safety and security of all our students, please do not let any other individuals into the school if you are being let in. Please also refrain from standing in doorways with the doors open. This helps us keep everyone safe.
Reminder: Please call the attendance line if your child is missing school
Please call our attendance line at 503-916-6275, email Sara at sgilds@pps.net or update through ParentVue if your child is missing school with the reason they are out. If there are multiple unexcused absences it is a district wide protocol that a teacher or member of our team will reach out to see how we can best support with getting your child to school. We know it can be hard and we are here to problem solve and support you and your family!
Conferences 11/25 &11/26 (NO SCHOOL)
Conferences will be on November 25th & 26th. There is no school these days. If you have any questions about your conference time or need to schedule your conference, please reach out to your students' teacher.
A Message from our school Social Worker
Food boxes will be available for pick up next week Monday and Tuesday during conferences. Additionally, Peninsula PTA has received a generous donation of 100 toys from Toys for Tots for Peninsula families seeking holiday gifts. Due to limited supplies please refrain from picking out a toy if you don't need this resource. Come to the PTA’s winter wonderland event December 5th to pick out a toy per child in your family under age 12 while supplies last. Please reach out to me if you have any further questions.
Please click here and check out the full list of past resources shared. Most of these are ongoing resources available. If you or your family needs access to additional resources (energy assistance, mental health, childcare, food boxes, clothing, etc.) please feel free to reach out via phone or text at my work cell 971.276.1759 - hablo español. I work part time and I'm in the school and available via phone Mondays-Thursdays before 2:15.
A Message from The Health Room
Hello Peninsula Families,
Immunization Exclusion Day occurs on 2/19/25. If your student is not up-to-date with Oregon Immunization Requirements they will not be able to attend school beginning that day. Parent letters have gone out to those students who have updates needed. We have lots of time to get these up-to-date, and the Multnomah County Health Centers are a great option!
Multnomah County Health Centers will be open the week of Thanksgiving, Monday 11/25-Wednesday 11/27, to assist. Appointments ARE needed. Our neighborhood health centers are at Roosevelt High School (503 988-3909) and Jefferson High School (503 988-3360). Please give them a call if you need an update and let us know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

During the event, caregivers are invited to select one toy per child in their family, to help ease financial stress and strain of the season. Due to limited supplies please refrain from picking out a toy if you don't need this resource. Please do not gift the items to children at the event.
Important Details:
- Shoppers: Adults or young adult helpers only, please.
- Age Range: Toys are geared toward children ages 11 and under.

A Message from The Green Team
Peninsula School is awarded grant funds from Metro, Nature in Neighborhoods Community Stewardship and Restoration program, and the City or Portland (BES), Community Watershed Stewardship program, to work with partners DePave, Harpers Playground, Early Childhood Health Outdoors, Eco School Network and Elbow Room to transform the blacktop space outside of the Kindergarten classrooms into an accessible school yard habitat and green STEAM lab. We would love your feedback on the preliminary designs created from staff and student input.
Share you thoughts virtually or drop by Mayfly on Sunday, 11/24, to check out plans and give feedback.
Peninsula Fork & Spoon Drive
The cafeteria fork and spoon supply is dwindling. Please bring any reusable forks and spoons you wish to donate to the office. Thanks!
Visitors in the Building
For the safety and security of our students, we will continue to ask that parents only enter the building if they are volunteering, have an appointment, or are picking a student up. This helps ensure that we know who is in the building at all times.
When you do enter the building for one of the above reasons, make sure to check in at the office and, if you're staying, print a visitor/volunteer badge.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Volunteering
We love having volunteers at Peninsula. Over the course of the year, caregivers will have several opportunties to volunteer either in the classroom or on field trips. All voluteers are required to complete a volunteer background check and training. Click here for information on the process.
It can take up to two weeks for your background check to be completed once you apply, so we encourage you to do it now just in case you decide to volunteer with us.
If you have completed the background check in the past, and are wondering if you are still active in the system, email Sara Gilds at sgilds@pps.net, and she will let you know.
