Homecoming Week Festivities at PTHS
It's Homecoming Week at Port Townsend High School, and we're excited to celebrate all the incredible students and teams who make PTHS such a vibrant place! One of our overarching goals this year is to increase participation across the board—not just in traditional athletics, but also in clubs, activities, and all the opportunities available to students. We believe strongly that when students are passionate about what they're doing extracurricularly, that passion almost always leads to better attendance and academic success.
This week, we're encouraging everyone—students and staff alike—to step out of their comfort zones and join in the Homecoming spirit. Here's a quick look at our dress-up themes for the week:
- Monday: PJ Day
- Tuesday: Twin Day
- Wednesday: Sunglasses Day
- Thursday: Oversized or Baggie Clothes Day
- Friday: PTHS Color Day
While we’ll definitely be celebrating the hard work of the football team, we also want to shine a light on all of our Fall athletes, including those in Tennis, Swimming, Cross Country, Soccer, and Volleyball. We’ve been asking students for ideas on how we can celebrate all Fall team sports for next year’s Homecoming, and we’re looking forward to hearing their input!
Throughout the week, each class is working on original posters and lip syncs, which will be unveiled at the Homecoming Assembly this Friday at 2:20 p.m. The Homecoming football game against Klahowya kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Field, and the festivities will wrap up with the Homecoming Dance this Saturday from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. in the gym.
Let’s make this week a celebration of all that PTHS stands for—let's step up, show our Redhawk pride, and enjoy Homecoming together!
PTHS Players Gear Up For Fall Production
As the PTHS Players gear up for their upcoming production of The Little Shop of Horrors, one student taking center stage is Freshman Ben Schafer, who has earned a lead role in the musical. Ben’s fearlessness and dedication to his craft have made him a standout, and his leadership on and off the stage is inspiring everyone involved.
But Ben isn’t alone in his commitment. The entire cast and crew have been working tirelessly to bring this production to life. From singing live and perfecting choreography to building sets and organizing props, every student involved has put in countless hours of effort. Just like their peers in athletics, these students are fully dedicated to honing their skills and working together as a team to ensure the success of the show.
Theater demands the same discipline, focus, and time management as sports. It’s a craft that requires students to push themselves out of their comfort zones, develop their voices, movements, and characters, and collaborate closely with one another. Whether they’re performing on stage, handling technical aspects, or managing backstage logistics, every student involved plays a critical role in making the magic happen.
Be sure to support Ben and all the students involved when Little Shop of Horrors opens. This production is a true showcase of their passion and dedication—don’t miss it!
The show will run November 8th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, and 17th featuring a dual cast.
Fresh Produce from PTSD gardens Making an Impact
At Port Townsend High School, the school garden is more than just a place to grow plants—it's helping provide fresh, locally grown food for our students while teaching them valuable lessons about sustainable agriculture. Recently, our garden team harvested an impressive 269 pounds of produce in a single day, including 49 pounds of basil, which was turned into 95 pounds of pesto. On top of that, they managed to gather 45 pounds of mushrooms in just two days!
This fresh produce is making its way into the school cafeteria, giving students a chance to enjoy healthy, delicious food that’s grown right here on campus. It’s not just about the meals, though. The garden offers a hands-on opportunity for students to learn about locally sourced food and sustainable growing practices, helping them understand where their food comes from and how it can be produced responsibly.
As the garden continues to grow, it’s becoming a valuable resource for both education and nutrition at PTHS. We’re proud of the hard work going into the garden and excited to see it play an increasingly important role in the lives of our students.
