Core Classroom Updates
English Language Arts
This week we explored argument and rhetorical devices through the essay “Challenges for Space Exploration”. In addition, the students examined articles about past space missions.
Next week will be quite busy as we continue our study of space exploration. Also, we will go to the LMC to return, renew, and check out books. Then, on Thursday, all students will be taking the STAR Reading Progress Monitoring Assessment.

We have completed the KELPA testing. Next, we will locate and identify adjectives in text. Students will create a craft to help them remember what an adjective is. They will learn that adjectives make our writing much more exciting to read.

Math
7th grade math students continued their work with probability this week. We're learning that probability can be represented as a number between zero and one and that we can write probability as a fraction, decimal, and percentage. We're also using experimental probability to make predictions. We'll continue our probability module next week. The kids will also take a STAR math progress monitoring assessment on Wednesday, 19 February. Have a great weekend!

Science
This week in science we learned about how ecosystems recover after a natural or man-made disaster. On Thursday, we started a group project creating animal land bridges. Students will start construction on Tuesday and should be ready to present on Thursday. We will also start learning about biodiversity next week. I hope that everyone has a wonderful long weekend.

Next week we will continue to work on Kansas History Chapter 5.3 Welcome to Kansas . Topics that will be covered are African American Migration, Nicodemus, Exodusters, Germans Settlers and French Settlement of Silkville. I hope everyone has a safe and healthy weekend.

Automation and Robotics
Build a prototype using a universal joint.
Communicate a plan for creating a system using sketches and prototyping.
Test a design with the purpose of improving its function.

It was another great week in AVID! This week students started our Goals unit. Student’s watched motivational videos about the reasons that the skills in AVID are important. Also, students collaborated with other students to work on communicating effectively. Next, week we will finish goal setting and begin college/career exploration!

Drama 7
This week the students added microphones and spotlights as they performed for their classmates. Next week, we will finish the Reader’s Theater unit and move on to more in-depth acting.

Energy and Environment
Students completed their Wind Turbine project this week. They determined characteristics of blade designs that improved their power output. Our next activity is to explore a career field in Engineering. This is a small group project.

Magic of Electrons
Students will construct and test physical electrical circuits based upon circuit diagrams and integrate DC sources, lamps, switches, diodes, light emitting diodes, resistors, and capacitors into electrical circuits to achieve specific functions. Finally, students will determine the value of a fixed resistor based upon the color codes on those resistors.

Medical Detectives
Students in Medical Detectives are preparing to do an experiment to see which antibiotic is most effective against E. Coli. Students have been reading through the lab and learning about aseptic technique. If your son/daughter has an allergy to erythromycin, tetracycline or ampicillin please let me know and I will have them simply observe the lab instead of participate. Thank you so much!

All is well in PE! This next week, we’ll continue with our 2nd week of GAGA ball combined with the weightroom. We will be continuing our time with alternating days in the weightroom through 3rd quarter. Sports conditioning classes will continue their daily workouts. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have for your student!
*We will look to go outside as much as possible for PE (weather permitting). Please help us in reminding our students to bring water bottles and tennis shoes every day they have PE.
