100th Day of School Events
Kindergarten: Activities will occur all week with students dressing up like they're 99 years old on Thursday, Feb. 6th! Throughout the week, students will be completing "missions" in order to receive clues to where Agent 99 has hidden Zero the Hero.
First Grade: Activities will occur Friday, Feb. 7th and Monday, Feb. 10th. Friday, students will dress up like they are 100 years old and complete activities related to the number 100. Monday, students will wear a class-specific color shirt to celebrate being "100 Days Sweeter!"
Second Grade: Activities will occur Friday, Feb. 7th with students completing various STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities in different classrooms. Students are encouraged to be creative in representing the number 100 if they choose to dress up.
iReady Score Reports Sent Home
Students take three benchmark assessments throughout each school year; Beginning of the year (Aug/Sept), Middle of the year (Dec/Jan), and End of the year (Apr/May). On Friday, every student brought home their iReady Middle of the Year Family Report for both reading and math. Students who had a coversheet are receiving either Targeted support from their homeroom teacher or Intensive support from both their homeroom teacher AND an interventionist in one or both areas. Our goal is to close the educational gap that students may be experiencing and get them to where they need to be in order to be successful at every step of their educational career. At Opequon, we also consider their Instructional Guided Reading Level because we recognize that students are more than "just a score" on a computerized test. Students with no coversheet are working at a level that is acceptable for their grade.
Continuous implementation of UFLI has been pivotal for our students at Opequon. Please continue to use those one-page readers at home and reach out if you'd like a copy of our grade-level heart words!

Clothing Closet Needs
Our clothing closet could use a little assistance if your family is willing! We're in need of several sizes for boys who might need a change of clothes throughout the day. Any help is appreciated. They can be new or gently used (washed is preferred). Thank you!
Size 4/5 pants
Size 6/7 pants
Size 8 pants and shirts
Shout out to Spring Mills Walmart
Thank you to SM Walmart for your donation of plastic bags. While it might seem small, the bags are used for various reasons throughout the day to ensure our artwork, clothing, and other miscellaneous items are sent home safely. We appreciate you!
Sweetheart Dance Thursday, February 13th
Only Opequon students are able to attend. Sorry, no siblings.
PTO- A great way to get involved at OES
PTO is our Parent Teacher Organization that meets monthly share ideas on how we can pour into students and staff, think of fun ideas, volunteer, and hear about what's going on at the school. We fundraise and find ways to support Opequon students and staff. All monies raised stay at the school. Our next PTO meeting is February 12th @ 4:30 in the OES Library. We hope to see you there!
SMART 529 Essay Contest
West Virginia children in grades K-5 can enter to win $5,000 in a SMART529 college savings account by writing about their future. It’s fun and easy. Here’s how it works: A child writes a short essay that begins with “When I grow up, I want to be a…”. They then tell why they chose that career. Parents and teachers can help children with their essays. The entries are broken down into three grade categories and five regions. The essays of 15 children are selected by a panel of judges, and those children are awarded a $500 SMART529 college savings account. The winners’ school (or homeschool association) also receives a $500 cash prize. The names of the 15 winners are then placed into a random drawing for the grand prize, which is an additional $4,500 in their SMART529 college savings account. DEADLINE is Feb.28, 2025
