Welcome Back to School Newsletter
Wales Primary School
Dear Wales Primary School Families,
We hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer, and are ready for an exciting new school year at Wales Primary ! As we gear up for the start of the year, we would like to share some highlights from our busy summer, and provide important information to ensure a smooth and successful year ahead.
Summer Highlights:
- UPK and Kindergarten Meet and Greet: We enjoyed meeting our new students during the UPK and Kindergarten supply drop-offs. It was a pleasure to see so many eager faces ready to start their educational journeys. I look forward to creating relationships with our new families!
- Professional Development: Our dedicated teachers have been working hard over the summer to enhance their knowledge and skills. They participated in various professional development opportunities, including expanding our learning about the science of reading and launching our new literacy curriculum.
As we prepare to welcome students back, we’re excited to fill the halls with their energy and enthusiasm. Here are a few important details to ensure a successful start:
First Day of School (Wednesday, September 4th): Students in grades K-3 may be dropped off beginning at 8:40. Parent drop off is from 8:40-8:50. Please be sure to check the map for drop off traffic flow. If you prefer to walk your child to the front door, parents are kindly asked to drop their child/ren off at the door, and not accompany them into the building. Students being picked up by adults will be dismissed at 3:20. Students that are riding the bus are dismissed at 3:30. UPK drop off will begin at 9:00 and pick-up will be at 3:00pm. A reminder that our busses will run late dismissing from school the first few days. We can’t wait to see all our students back in their classrooms!
School Supplies: A friendly reminder to check the school supply lists, and ensure your child is ready with the necessary materials. Lists are available on our website.
Parent-Teacher Communication: We encourage open communication between families and teachers. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We value your partnership in supporting your child’s education.
Upcoming Events: Please keep an eye out for information regarding upcoming events, such as open house, family events sponsored by our PTO, and ways to be involved in the classroom. We look forward to engaging with you and fostering a strong school community. There will be a message sent from the principal's office every Friday with updates and important information. These messages are archived on our website.
Open House: This event will be held on Thursday, September 26th from 6:00-7:30. This event is for all families with children in grades UPK - 3rd grade.
School Picture Day: School picture day is Thursday, October 3rd. School picture make-up day is Wednesday, November 6th. Don't forget to smile big!
UPK: This year, Iroquois received the UPK Expansion Grant from New York State Department of Education. This awarded our district with 18 additional UPK spots. Families are responsible for transportation to and from UPK programs.
Transportation: The district is currently accepting bus passes for childcare purposes only. Please fill out the District Transportation Request Form as soon as possible. This form can also be filled out electronically on the district website. Transportation Request Form 2024-2025.
After reviewing the enclosed Transportation Information, if you have any questions or changes that need to be made, please contact the Transportation Department, at (716) 652-3000 ext. 8001.
Please check out the Transportation Department Website for more information. Link: Transportation Department.
Parents and students can access their bus stop location, route, and pick-up time on the My Ride K-12 mobile app. The app uses vehicle GPS geolocation to show the location of Iroquois buses during their scheduled routes. To download the APP search My Ride K-12 mobile app. Available in the APPLE STORE and GOOGLE PLAY STORE.

School Breakfast/Lunch: We are proud to offer breakfast and lunch to our students everyday. It's a great idea to review the calendar/menu options with your child in advance to help him/her select their choice for the day.
Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications: Families are encouraged to complete an application for free/reduced meal prices application. Information can be found on the Food service webpage on how to apply.
For added convenience, our district uses MySchoolBucks to manage meal accounts. Families can use this platform to monitor their child’s meal activity, add funds for a la carte items, and more. This easy-to-use service is designed to give families greater control and visibility over their children’s meal transactions.
Menus and Important Updates throughout the year can be found on our website: food service page.
We are committed to providing nutritious meals to all our students and ensuring that no child goes hungry. If you have any questions or need assistance with any of the programs mentioned above, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Director of Food Services.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in fostering a healthy, thriving learning environment for our students.

The Wales Primary PTO is thrilled to welcome families back to school for the 2024-2025 school year! We look forward to another amazing year of events and programs that enhance our students' lives. At the final meeting of the school year in June, new officers were elected. Congratulations to Co-Presidents; Taylor Palmer and Heather Shevlin, Treasurer; Dan Norton, Secretary; Mary Chamber, Fundraising co-chairs; Shelly Albers and Alyssa Gingerich, and Room Parent Coordinator; Jennifer Norton.
The first PTO meeting of the school year is Thursday, September 12th at 6:00pm at the playground shelter or the Wales cafeteria. All interested in the success of our students and their families are welcome to attend. All parents who wish to be the lead room parent are asked to attend this first meeting if possible.
The first community PTO event of the school year will be the Harvest Hoedown on Friday, October 25th! This is the biggest family event of the year, and we need your help to pull it off. If you would like to volunteer for planning, setting up, working part of the event, or cleaning up afterward, please let us know!
Please watch for more information to come home with your students. We look forward to another amazing year!
