Modifications to Quarantine Protocols
On February 1, 2022, BCSC sent out information regarding modifications to our quarantine protocols that began on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, to align with revised Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) guidelines.
These modifications were enacted after consultation with internal stakeholder groups and local medical professionals. A review of our data indicates that very few of the close contacts identified in the school setting later test positive for COVID-19 (less than 5%). Given that it is much more likely for close contacts from a home setting to later test positive, these close contacts will still be required to quarantine as the exposure is OUTSIDE the school day.
- Exposure in a classroom setting has been changed to exposure during the school day. The school day is defined by the moment a student steps on the bus to the moment they step off. It does NOT include extracurricular activities.
- All close contacts will stay at school, regardless of vaccination status, unless they have symptoms or are unmasked.
- Lunch contacts do not need to go home as long as there is an adult observing the cafeteria and masks are put back on after eating.
- When a positive case occurs, notification will be made to parents of ALL students in the classroom. (see communication example below about ParentSquare)

BCSC Communication about a POSITIVE Case in the Classroom
BCSC Schools have begun using a new communication tool called ParentSquare. In the event of your student becoming a close contact to a positive case in the classroom, you will receive a text message and/or an email.
The email and text message will read very similar to this:
Dear Parent/Guardian,
You are being notified that your student was in (Insert teacher name) class today with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. Because we require masks during the school day, your student does not need to quarantine.
However, we ask that you monitor your student for symptoms of illness for the next 10 days and do not send your student to school if they are ill or become symptomatic. If symptoms develop, keep your student home, and seek COVID testing.
If the COVID test is positive - your student should remain at home for at least 5 full days (may return on Day 6) as long their symptoms have improved and they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin. Please keep your student home even after 5 full days if symptoms have not improved or a temperature over 100.4 is present.
If the COVID test is negative – your student should remain at home until their symptoms are improved and they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin. If your student is still sick 24 hours or more after a negative COVID test, consider getting a COVID PCR available at sites throughout the state.
Visit https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/covid-19-testing-information/ to locate a testing site near you or the BCSCschools.org/COVID 19 website for additional information.
Please contact the nurse at (Insert School), (Insert phone number) if you have additional questions.
Thank you,
(Insert School Name)
