Field Day 2024
What a great day for students and staff. The 8th grade students under the guidance of Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Keefe did a great job running all of the different stations for the rest of the school on Wednesday. All the students and staff had a great time, playing the different games in a friendly competition. Everyone ended the day with a special treat from Kona Ice thanks to our wonderful PTO. Thank you to everyone for making this event such a huge success. Thank you again to Mrs. Berry and Mrs. Keefe for putting on this amazing annual Weathersfield tradition.
Classroom Assignments for Next Year
As the school year comes to a close, the excitement and anticipation for next year is starting to spring up. One of the joys of a small school is that most students know the teachers at the different grade-levels and have already started to develop relationships. This year teachers will send an introduction letter the first of August to introduce themselves and get the chance to learn more about your student. Every year we have changes during the summer with families moving in or out and even staff changes. This way everything should be in place with very little changes.

Volunteer with the Four Winds Nature Program!
If you’re reading this, you are (most likely) a caregiver of a student at Weathersfield School. Did you know that for over a decade, there has been a volunteer-led nature program in our school which enriches our kids’ learning?
Your kids have probably enjoyed a Four Winds program. Ask them. Did they have fun? Do you want to have fun?
Join us! Do you have 2–4 hours per month available during the school day? No experience necessary; we are trained in all the units before bringing the outdoor, hands-on activities to the K–5 classes.
As a volunteer-driven program, it is vital that we have volunteers. So, jump on board! And feel free to pass this on to interested grandparents or other community members. To sign up, please contact Naomi Morse at naomimorse@gmail.com or 646-842-1351.

Important Band Information
Greetings Band Families,
As the school year is coming to a close, I would like to check in regarding band
instrument care. It is recommended that all band instruments receive an annual
cleaning and summer time can be the perfect time to do this. If you rent an
instrument from the Ellis Music Company, an annual maintenance is at no charge. If
you own your instrument, there is a small fee. If you use a school issued instrument, I
will need to put those back into our inventory for the summer and your musician will
get 1st priority to use it in the Fall. Our Ellis rep will make two more trips to WS
before the school year is out. Monday June 3 and Monday June 10. After school closes
for the summer, you would need to communicate with Ellis Music directly in order to
pick up or drop off their instrument by calling 802-234-6400.
Additionally, if your student has shown interest and dedication to learning their
instrument this year, I would highly recommend considering renting an instrument for
next year. Ellis Music Company offers great rates for their rent to own program, and
having a quality instrument can really make a huge difference in a beginner’s musical
growth. As I work to get our current instruments repaired, as well as replace retired
instruments, many students will find much more success on instruments from Ellis
which always come in excellent condition and ready to play. This also allows our small
library of instruments to have priority towards students who would not be able to join
the band otherwise, as well as new students trying out an instrument for the first time.
Some students will continue to play their instruments over the summer (this is
recommended) by playing in community bands, summer camps and/or instrument
lessons. If you would like to check out a school instrument for continued play over the
summer, please email me at rebecca.towne@wsesu.net. Otherwise, please plan to
return all school instruments to the band room no later than Monday, June 10.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns, and have a great summer!

LACE UP FOR LAURA 5K & KIDS FUN RUN
The Lace Up for Laura Memorial 5k walk/run is a way to come together the last Saturday in June each year in remembrance of Laura Cody McNaughton who died in a tragic car accident on June 28, 2018. It is intended to be a fun activity families can participate in together with runners and walkers of all ability. The event will consist of two races held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in Weathersfield, VT: an approximately 1/3 mile kids 12 and under fun run starting at 8:30 A.M. followed by a 3.1 mile (5km) race starting at 9:00 A.M for all ages and abilities. The starting line for both races will be located near the intersection of Plains road and Reservoir road. The 3.1 mile race will be an out and back race on the scenic dirt road known for its lack of change in elevation. Proceeds from the Memorial run will benefit the Laura Cody McNaughton Memorial fund and its annual scholarship which will be awarded to a graduating senior who exemplifies Laura’s leadership and giving spirit, and is pursuing further education and training in a field where these principles may be put into practice.
