PLTW Engineering Updates
Here are the latest updates from the PLTW Engineering courses:
Students have been developing their skills in Fusion 360, our 3D design software, while also learning about product assembly and structural design. As part of their coursework, they have been working on an initial outdoor patio concept for an ice cream shop.
By the end of this project, students will create a 3D-printed scale model of their patio concept. Our client is excited about the students' work and looks forward to incorporating their designs into the final patio construction. On February 25, students had the opportunity to present their designs to our client, who was highly impressed with their concepts. They are now refining their designs by adjusting measurements and product placements before moving into the 3D modeling phase in Fusion 360.
Students recently completed their robotics unit by programming and synchronizing a four-part, robot-performed instrumental rendition of Eye of the Tiger. They collaborated as a class to construct, code, and fine-tune their robots to play in harmony. Their hard work culminated in a performance for Mr. Hollenbaugh, our FLS band instructor, who was both impressed and entertained by their 33-second musical achievement.
We have now transitioned into our Electrical Engineering Unit, where students have built a strong foundation in series and parallel circuits and explored the application of Ohm’s Law. Their learning will continue through circuit simulations and hands-on breadboarding exercises.
Next, we will be diving into our Fluid Power Unit, further expanding students' understanding of engineering principles in real-world applications.
- Students have transitioned from Combinational Logic to exploring Synchronous and Asynchronous Counters. They are currently studying the functionality of Flip-Flop components and will soon apply this knowledge to design and implement a 60-second timer circuit.
Students have completed the Residential Unit and are now transitioning into the commercial side of the building industry. As they expand their understanding of commercial walls, foundations, building codes, and more, they will analyze recent survey results and redesign a vacant plot of land in town.
While this is a fictitious project, its connection to our own community makes it especially meaningful. Students have embraced the challenge, taking ownership of their learning and design work. I am excited to see the innovative concepts they develop!
COTC Accuplacer
If your student registered for CCP Composition I & II or CCP College Algebra with Grimm or Snyder for the next school year, COTC will be administering the Accuplacer Test at Fredericktown High School on April 1 at 2:45 PM.
COTC will provide a list of students required to take the test, but we will not have that information for a few weeks. We appreciate your patience during this process. Each test will take approximately one hour to complete.
Please refer to the flyer below for additional details.
2025 Spring Sports Schedule
FHS Digital Hall of Fame
Check out the FHS Digital Hall of Fame from home!
The Digital Hall of Fame not only displays our school's athletic accomplishments but also contains our Hall of Honor recipients, those who have received academic honors, served in the armed forces, and information about our school's history.
School Counselors Information
Check out the FHS Guidance page on the school website for scholarship information.
Every student that wishes to take CCP classes next year needs to fill out the letter of intent by April 1, 2025. Every year a student takes a CCP class. a letter of intent is required.
- Please encourage your students to be diligent about checking their emails as Mrs. Barta sends out scholarship, volunteer, and career information and opportunities on a regular basis.
All About The Trades
If you want to go into the Trades and stay at FHS, check out the links below and make an appointment with Mrs. Barta about Trade Pathways & Apprenticeship information.
General Information
Have your student visit niche.com to register for their free account. This site helps in organizing college searches, as well as searching for scholarships. It will also help your student stay on top of deadlines with the personalized dashboard, use the Admissions Calculator to see the likelihood of getting into a certain college, and quickly compare schools side-by-side.
Common App is a great website for applying to colleges. Students will make an account, fill out one application, and be able to apply to multiple colleges at once.
Transcript Requests can be done all online. Go to the school’s website, click on High School and then Guidance Department. Under Student and Parent Resources, you will click on Transcript Request Google Forms. Please allow one week to process the request.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital Center for Suicide Prevention is hosting several Caregiver Education trainings. Click here to view the schedule and topics offered or check out the flyer below:
Attendance
General Policies
Regular attendance is key to success in school and is a positive factor that develops habits of punctuality, self-discipline, and responsibility. Students who attend class regularly generally achieve higher grades, enjoy school, and are more employable after leaving school.
Excused Absences:
Personal illness of the student (A doctor’s excuse stating for what days specifically the student should be excused from school may be required by the school for every absence over 72 hours. Once a doctor’s excuse is required, it is required for all absences for the remainder of the year).
Illness in the home (student must be 14 years of age or older).
Quarantine of the home by local health officials.
Death of a relative (limited to three days unless reasonable cause can be shown for a longer absence).
Observance of a religious holiday (consistent with the student’s established creed or belief).
Alternate learning experience approved in advance by an administrator.
A maximum of two (2) college visits for juniors and seniors to take place during the regular school year. These are extensions of the school day and are not counted in the attendance record. These absences must be approved five days in advance.
Reporting Absences:
- The morning of the absence, a parent/guardian should inform the office of the absence and the reason.
- An absence note or email, containing the dates and reason for the absence, signed by the parent or guardian or physician must be presented to the office within three (3) days of the student returning to school.
- Failure to produce an acceptable note from a parent or guardian within three (3) school days following an absence will result in an unexcused absence.
*Please see the student / parent handbook for the attendance policy and procedures

Supporting our Freddies
Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. We encourage everyone to actively participate in creating a nurturing environment that promotes open communication, empathy, and understanding. If you know a student who may need support, or if you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our social workers or school counselors. Working together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of our students.
