We ARE Vestaburg
January 2022
From the Superintendent
It is 2022! While we are still getting used to saying this, we are looking forward to the next calendar year. I hope this finds everyone doing well and staying healthy!
The pandemic has made many things a struggle and has left many of us surviving instead of thriving. Thus, our focus at VCS is to get back to Thriving. While we know that things can change at any time, we are hopeful for continued consistency for our students. We want to continue to focus on the academic and social-emotional growth of our students. The ups and downs of the past 1 and1/2 have definitely impacted all of us in some way or another and while we cannot change the past we can focus on what happens next and focus on ensuring that all of our students are making significant growth. As parents, it is important that you encourage your student to have this growth mindset. Focus on the improvement and what they will be able to do, not on what they can't. It is important that students and staff do not think "I can't do that" but instead think "I cannot do it yet! Be a Yeti!
Respectfully,
Brandon Hubbard

Board News
The Board of Education held its monthly meeting on January 10, 2022.
January School Board Recognition Month
Lynn Van Sickler – President
Charlotte Davis - Vice President
Mark Alexander - Trustee
Brian Zinn – Treasurer
Carol Herman - Trustee
Ivan Palmer - Secretary
Renae Caudill - Trustee:
For recognition for all of their hard work and commitment to Vestaburg Community School, student books will be purchased and donated to our student library in the name of each board member.
On behalf of our staff and our community, we want to thank each of these individuals. Being a board member takes considerable time and can be a very challenging and thankless job. However, these caring and dedicated people continue to support our school and our students, regardless of what is thrown at them! Thank you!
New Business:
The big item on the agenda was the approval of the amended budget. The budget included an increase of 63 students this year, in addition to an increase to the Foundation Allowance or FTE (funding per student) to $8700. As a result, the district is conservatively anticipating being able to add $243,000 to our Fund Equity. As a district, we have been able to increase our fund equity from 5% to 21% over the past few years while also being able to increase teaching staff and support for our students. This does not include ESSER III or pandemic funding that we will be receiving in 2022-2023.
Shout-Outs:
- Ken Tiesworth, Ken Carll, and Kyle Clayton for setting up a new projector in Mrs. Vissmans classroom during the holiday break. Mr. Hubbard stated these three also set up the vape detectors during break and they are working well.
Other Business:
The district is in the process of interviewing candidates for the Elementary Principal position that was vacated when Mrs. Groulx took another position. We hope to have the position filled in the coming weeks.
