Congratulations Board Members
Congratulations to Laura Setzke for being elected as the newest member of the Fenton Area Public School Board, as well as a job well done to Dana Jones for her many years of service as a board member and her reelection to the board for 6 more years! FHS Theater Presents......
The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza, audiences are treated to a classical education, rendered within a contemporary context, and presented in an unconventional manner utilizing interactive participation, elements of slapstick, and general theatrical insanity.
Two battling narrators attempt to both educate and entertain by offering their interpretations of such famous myths as Pandora’s Box, Jason & the Argonauts, and Hercules, with this entire melee culminating in a bizarre, musical dance-influenced version of The Iliad, guaranteed to provide a wild and fun-filled ride for audiences of all ages.

1st Marking Report Cards - Now Available
The end of the 1st marking period took place October 25th and Teacher Grades were due on Friday, November 1st. Grades from our outside partners (i.e. GCI, Mott, U of M, etc.) were also received November 4th and had to be "hand entered" by Counselors.
NOTE: Grades for 1st marking period are now available to be seen on Parent Vue/Student Vue.
Remember, 1st marking period grades are worth 40% of the semester grade. Semester grades are determined as follows: 1st mp (40%) + 2nd mp (40%) + Semester Exams (20%) = Overall semester grade. Example grade calculation using 75% 1st marking period and 80% second marking period and a 70% on semester exam grade ; (.75)(.40) + (.80)(.40) + (.70)(.20) = .30 + .32 + .14 = .76 = 76% or C for the overall semester grade.
1st marking period (8/22 - 10/25/24) = 40% of 1st semester grade
2nd marking period (10/30 - 1/17/25) = 40% of 1st semester grade
Semester Exams (January 15, 16, & 17, 2025) = 20% of 1st semester grade
Overall semester grades are what gets put on the official transcript in January.
Positivity Project (aka P2) Theme of the Week - Bravery
This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Bravery. Bravery means you act with mental, moral, or physical strength, even when you know things are difficult or scary.
Bravery refers to voluntary (not coerced) action in the face of a dangerous circumstance. This strength involves judgment; the brave person must have an understanding of the risks and consequences involved in acting. According to Socrates and Plato, forethought separates acts of valor from acts of rashness. This means that bravery isn’t simply fearlessness but instead the overcoming of fear.
Overcoming fears is critically important in individual development, as it allows the person to do more and become more. A person can be brave every single day. For example, some people with social anxiety are brave just by leaving their houses and talking with people. On a physical level, bravery allows us to overcome fears, such as swimming or playing a sport. And, on a moral level, doing what we know to be right, despite the risks, gives us the sense that we are acting on behalf of a larger purpose.

Mock Election in SRT
To help students understand more about the national election taking place, each SRT was assigned a state to research, learn about the number of electoral votes that state has, learn how the electoral college works and find out whether or not that state lost/gained electoral votes since 2020.
On election day, students voted and teachers tallied their class results and sent them to the Social Studies Department head who tallied the winner based on the electoral votes.
And the winner is.....Donald J. Trump. The students called it before the national results were in.

Reminder to Call In Absences (By Noon the Day After An Absence)
Parents:
We know you get busy, but at the high school level, students who accumulate over 10 days of absences during a semester, especially when those absences are unexcused, have to appeal for their credit at the end of the semester.
Please don't put yourself and your child in that situation. Be sure to call when they are out absent or by noon the next day (after you receive the robocall to remind you).
Thanks.

Inclement Weather Season
With the holiday season upon us, it's that time of year when we start preparing for possible inclement weather and the possibility of school cancellation. Please take time to plan for what you and your family will do in the event we have to cancel school. The district will always attempt to make decisions in time for you to use your plans optimally; however, sometimes with mother nature and the weather patterns in Michigan it doesn't always go as we'd all appreciate.
Please take a look below at the process for a weather cancellation and understand that we try our best to ensure student safety above all else.
A. We monitor the weather, and if severe weather is predicted, as superintendent, I along with the help of our transportation/operations department, local road commission and law enforcement evaluate potential issues.
B. As superintendent, I collaborate with Genesee County Superintendents to make decisions based on the road conditions for our area currently and/or in the near future.
C. We as a district will notify designated individuals in the event of a school closure to then disseminate information as quickly as possible.
D. Families can check: the district website, messaging through our FAPS app to phones in the form of voice, text message, email message, district Facebook, and news stations (ABC 12, WNEM 5, NBC 25, Detroit Fox2).
When the weather breaks and road conditions are in question, remember to leave early and drive slowly. Also, ensure your contact information is updated with your school so the district can provide the most efficient communication, and download our FAPS App.
