Here are our updates for this week!
What Do You Need To Know?
Sophomores Visit Career Centers
This week and last, sophomores had the opportunity to tour and visit the various career centers our Rangers can attend their junior year. They chose programs that fit their interests and potential future career paths. From welding, to cosmetology, to criminal justice - our students got to experience some hands-on activities that were both fun and engaging!
Student Leaders Take On OSU!
Student leaders had a chance to visit The Ohio State University. They spent the day collaborating with 500 leaders from across the state discussing the importance of data based problem solving. We love that our students get a chance to be part of these events. Attendees: JB Ogunlana, Jael Haynes-Lee, Kyan Spencer, Ally Bocchicchia, Kamryn Clark, Jeremiah Hicks, & RJ Santmire.
Honoring Our Legacy
Mr. O'Brien and student leadership attended the Ohio Supreme Court's unveiling and dedication ceremony of their 2 new exhibits: Justices Who Served & Tuskegee Airmen. Students present were Elikai Trotter, Emma Taylor, Gabby Schutte, and Cali Ferrell. O'Brien and these students were joined by former Air Force pilot Captain John Mitchell, who was also a former President of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc., Columbus Chapter, and Lockbourne Mayor Christie Ward. Mitchell's father was an electrician and part of the Tuskegee Airmen Unit. Mayor Ward, Mitchell, O'Brien, and the students ventured to the State Capitol last year in an effort to secure state funding for the Village of Lockbourne's "Memorial Wall", which is to be completed in 2026 and will feature the Tuskegee Airmen. O'Brien's grandfather was a B-17 Bomber Pilot whose life was saved by the Tuskegee Airmen during WWII. His grandfather was also a JAG Officer (Lieutenant Colonel) and later Judge in the Air Force.
On His Pathway
This week Junior Tyler Steverding attended the Ohio School Board Association convention and participated in the Entrepreneurial Showcase. Tyler spoke about his business, Nobel Lawn Services LLC, to several school district leaders from around the state.
Congratulations, Kinley Neff!
Mr. O'Brien's environmental science students participated in the 2nd Annual OEP (Ohio Energy Project) Career Event on the campus of Ohio State University. A $1,000 scholarship was offered for an essay/presentation competition with the topic "Technological Innovations: What is Driving the Future of Energy?". The OEP Scholarship Committee selected HTHS's Kinley Neff as this year's scholarship winner! She presented her slides and essay to a group of over 200 people. Students in attendance also talked to local vendors in the energy sector, and attended various guest speaker sessions. Josh Kennedy and Michelle Sagastume both won raffle drawing prizes. Other students in attendance: Kolton Adams, Brennan Bowman, Calleigh Chambers, De'Yonna Dixon, Aubrey Goodson, Gael Perez, and Christina Wellman.
Semester 1 Exam Schedule
In an effort to be proactive, we want to share the exam schedule students will be following at the end of the quarter. Please know that students are expected to be present for their exams at their appointed time. If students do not have an exam in the later periods, they are not required to remain in the building. Transportation, however, will run its usual schedule.
Benefit Concert Makes a Difference
The "Walk With Me" Scholarship Benefit Concert is Saturday November 23rd. We will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the HT Drama Department with performances from notable alumni and graduating seniors. We will also be revealing our Spring Musical at the close of the concert. Admission is $8, with 100% of proceeds going to the Mark Frazier Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides annual awards to HTHS seniors involved in our performing arts programs.
