HHES
June 2, 2024
Greetings, Families,
It is amazing how quickly time is flying by- most likely due to the excitement the end of the year brings to all. While there are several events occurring for students, our goal is to keep things as close to "business as usual" as we can. Please be sure to check-out the calendar below for some of the happenings at Holly Hall!
This week Ms. Cooper will host our final Donuts with Grownups for the year. The theme this week is Summer Fun and we hope to see you on Friday at 8:00!
While we must thank so many staff, students, volunteers, and families for a great Fun and Fitness Day, we absolutely must give a shout out to Mrs. Campbell and Ms. Fetterolf who plan and take action to make the magic happen. Thank you, ladies! Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see some of the fun!
You most likely heard that this past week was our Career Week. Ms. Cooper organized Career on Wheels for students in PreKindergarten through second; as well as a College and Career Fair for students in grades 3-5. The best part? All students had the opportunity to speak with local actor, Christian Robinson, while he was on-set in Georgia filming a new movie!
Students in grades 3 and 4 enjoyed a special visit from Ms. Moorman, our instrumental music instructor. Believe it or not, Band and Orchestra recruitment for next school year is NOW OPEN! If your child will be in 4th or 5th grade this fall, they are eligible to join our Instrumental Music Program and learn to play a musical instrument! We offer instruction on the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, percussion, violin, viola, and cello!
- Please visit us at https://sites.google.com/ccps.org/eim/ for more information and to enroll your child! Contact Ms. Kelley Moorman at kmoorman@ccps.org if you have any questions! Enrollment is open from now until September 6.
Not sure about you, but not having to cook any night is a good night for me!! Therefore, you will be sure to see us at Mick's Crab House this Thursday from 4-8 for our final PTO Spirit Night of the year! Added bonus- They will be offering a $10 children's menu!
- There are still a few $5 raffle tickets left if you are feeling lucky! The lucky winners will be announced Thursday! đŚ

Title I Surveys
Title I is a federal grant that provides supplemental funding for schools with a high concentration of students who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals, as well as other Meal Benefits Programs. CCPS has 11 identified Title I schools and 1% of the Title I budget is reserved for Parent & Family Engagement to support instructional programs geared toward increasing parentsâ capacity to help their childrenâs learning and improve student achievement.
As part of the Maryland State Department of Education requirements for school systems receiving Title I funding, parents must be surveyed regarding Parent & Family Engagement so please complete the following surveys so we can use your input as we plan how to best assist you with supporting your children's learning at home.
Please respond to surveys by Friday, June 14. Thank you for your support!
There are 2 surveys:

HHES Yearbooks!
There are only a handful left! Be sure to get yours before they are sold out!
Simply send in an envelope marked "Yearbook" with your child's name and homeroom teacher!
If you are wondering, students absolutely still love to have their friends sign their books at the end of the year:-)
Growing Readers
The phonemes produced when reading the letters b and p are often confused by struggling or emerging readers as the manner of articulation is identical. When producing each sound, the speakerâs lip, tongue and jaw placements are exactly the same. The lips come together to stop the airflow, and a small amount of air pressure builds up behind the lips. The air is then released as the lips open. What differs is the voicing. The P consonant is voiceless meaning it is produced with just air passing through the vocal cords and out of the mouth. The vocal cords are turned off as you say this sound. P is the âquiet brother.â The B consonant is voiced meaning the vocal cords are turned on as this sound is produced. You should feel a vibration in the throat when you say it. B is the ânoisy brother.â Pointing out the similarities and differences between the production of these two phonemes is beneficial for mastering the correct letter sounds!
