2nd Graders practice Bridge to Reading Routines!
This week the Mark Twain 2nd graders started learning and practicing reading and spelling strategies using our Bridge to Reading Spell Tabs Folders. The Spell Tabs folders are the blue folders and yellow sticky tabs that allow children to practice word building during the We Do portion of the lesson. Children then use the finger blending strategy to read the words we build. This strategy is also used when students see a word they want to read. Children will say each sound and then blend the sounds with their fingers to read the word. Not only are we practicing reading and spelling, but we are also practicing listening and organizational skills. Keep up the great work 2nd Graders, YOU ROCK!
Creating a Parent/Guardian Account in Canvas
Below are the directions for pairing as a Parent Observer with your students’ Canvas account.
Parents can use Canvas to
Contact their child’s teacher
View grades, due dates, and events
See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
Support an absent student
View classroom and building announcements
And more!
For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade:
A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade:
To log in as your student, go to this website (preferably in Chrome, but Safari is okay):
https://www.fraser.k12.mi.us/myfps
Click on the icon that says Canvas Student Login.
Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.
Next Step-
To create and/or log into your Canvas Parent Account:
On a different device (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) Visit this website –

Strategic Plan Survey and Community Meeting
We are excited to embark on the creation of our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan—a roadmap that will shape the next five years of excellence in Fraser Public Schools. This plan will continue to focus on our strong traditions of excellence by staying committed to our core values and beliefs - Innovate, Learn, Lead.
To ensure this plan reflects the needs and aspirations of all stakeholders, we are launching a community survey to gather input. The survey will remain open through October 1st, and we encourage all families, staff, students, and community members to share their thoughts. This is your chance to help shape the future of Fraser Public Schools, and we want to hear from you!
In addition, we will be holding a Community & Parent Meeting to kick off the strategic planning process on October 1 at 6 pm in the Fraser High School Media Center.

Hot Food Deliveries
The District does not allow the delivery of food and beverages from outside vendors or fast food establishments for a student’s breakfast or lunch meal. All meals are to be provided by either our Food Service program or prepared at home and sent with your student. Outside food delivery is a safety concern. We do not want to have strangers and people that we do not know coming to our buildings with delivery bags. It also is a workload issue for office personnel. Managing multiple food deliveries during lunch time becomes an additional responsibility for our office staff. The District works hard to provide a variety of healthy, good-tasting food in its cafeterias, and students are always free to bring their own lunch to school. We will continue to follow our past practice of making sure students receive lunch if they forget to bring one from home.
Free Breakfast & Lunch
The State of Michigan will provide a free breakfast and lunch for all students who want them throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Although not required, we do ask that families complete the Education Benefit Form located HERE. By doing so you help ensure the school receives additional funding.
