Hello, Jaguar Family!
Happy Sunday! We hope everyone is having a pleasant weekend. We are looking forward to having an enjoyable and productive week at school. This is our last week before we have a week off for Thanksgiving break. We ask that everyone stay focused and engaged.

Important Message About Vaping
As we all know, the health and well-being of our children are top priorities. Lately, a growing concern has been the rise in vaping among middle school students. While some may believe vaping is less harmful than smoking, it comes with its own set of serious health risks that can affect young people, especially as their bodies and brains are still developing.
The Dangers of Vaping
Vaping involves inhaling an aerosol (often called "vapor") created by heating a liquid that typically contains nicotine, flavoring chemicals, and other harmful substances. Nicotine is particularly dangerous for young people, as it can:
Affect brain development: Nicotine can interfere with brain circuits involved in learning, memory, and attention, potentially leading to lasting effects on cognition and behavior.
Increase risk of addiction: Vaping can lead to nicotine addiction, making it more likely for young people to start smoking traditional cigarettes.
Harm lung health: Vaping has been linked to lung injury and respiratory problems, with some severe cases resulting in long-term health issues.
How to Talk to Your Child About Vaping
It’s important to have open, non-judgmental conversations with your child about vaping. Here are some tips for talking to them:
Start with an open dialogue: Ask what they know about vaping, and listen to their thoughts and feelings. Your goal is to understand their perspective.
Share the facts: Explain the dangers of vaping in an age-appropriate way. Let them know that while vaping may seem harmless to some, it can have long-lasting health consequences.
Be supportive, not confrontational: If you’re worried your child may be vaping, approach the conversation calmly. Avoid accusations, and instead, express concern for their health and well-being.
Help them make healthy choices: Talk about the importance of making decisions that protect their body and their future. Encourage them to stand up to peer pressure and make choices they can be proud of.
Set clear expectations: Let them know your family’s stance on vaping. Establish rules and talk about the consequences of vaping, while reinforcing the importance of respect and open communication.
Consequences of Vaping at School
As part of House Bill 114, students are placed in the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP) if the student possesses, uses, is under the influence, sells, gives, or delivers marijuana, THC, or an e-cigarette while on campus, within 300 feet of school property, or at a school-related event.
Parents are encouraged to talk to their student(s) about these new state requirements. It’s important that students understand the consequences if caught participating in any of the actions above.
Resources
For resources to use when talking with your student about the dangers of e-cigarettes visit the Surgeon General website.
We encourage you to stay informed and be proactive in protecting your child’s health. Together, we can help our students make choices that lead to healthier, brighter futures.
Thank you for your ongoing support in fostering a safe and healthy school environment.

The Season of Giving is Upon Us:
The SPARK Club Food Drive, Nov. 11-18
Brown Santa Toy Drive: Nov. 4 - Dec. 6
Brown Santa donations: Monday, November 4th - Friday, December 6th
Starting November 4th, Cedar Valley will be hosting donation buckets for Brown Santa, a non-profit organization founded by the Travis County Sheriff's Office that brings holiday cheer to families in need. Every year, Brown Santa collects donations of toys and other essentials and distributes them to children and families who may not have the means to celebrate Christmas.
This season, let’s come together as a school community to make a difference! Here’s how you can help:
What to Donate: New children’s toys, stuffed animals, blankets, craft supplies, clothing, and other holiday essentials.
Where to Donate: Find the Brown Santa donation buckets placed in Jag Lobby
Other Ways to Help: Scan the QR code on the donation buckets to make a direct donation or browse Brown Santa's Amazon storefront to purchase items they need.
By giving a little, we can bring joy to families and make someone’s Christmas truly special. Let’s make this holiday season a brighter one for everyone—one donation at a time!
This toy drive project is a partnership between McNeil High School DECA and Travis County Sheriff's Office.
