A Message from the School DIstrict re: Elementary Band and Orchestra
We truly value our music programs and recognize the important role they play in a well-rounded education. That said, after consulting with our elementary principals, district administration has determined that the loss of instructional time in core subjects makes it unsustainable for students to participate in both band and orchestra during the school day. Preserving core academic learning time is essential to supporting student achievement.
As a result, beginning with next year’s 5th grade class (current 4th graders), students will be able to participate in either band or orchestra—but not both—in grades 5 and 6.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of music and academics in our schools.
