COYOTE CONNECTIONS
April 7, 2024
Coyote Ridge Families,
Good afternoon, everyone!
It's time for Eclipse Day! I sent a separate Skylert email on March 18th regarding the Total Eclipse on April 8th as well as including it in prior school newsletters. I have also included all of that information in a section below. I have left the OPT OUT form open a bit longer, but it will close at 9AM Monday morning. What a cool experience ahead!
In this newsletter, you'll find information and reminders about Eclipse information and opt out form, Habit 7 activity, Library month activities, Chick-fil-A spirit day, LISD Art Show, CRE Game Night (with PTA meeting prior to the event), CRE Music Program information, and yearbook orders. As always, this newsletter also includes links to Recognize SomeONE submissions, Child Nutrition information, CRE PTA Information, and calendar updates.
Thanks for all you do!
Regards,
Mrs. Padgett Cervantes
Total Eclipse - April 8th
Coyote Ridge ES Families,
On Monday, April 8, Dallas will be the largest city in the path of totality for the once-in-a-lifetime Great North American Eclipse. We are excited to share this milestone with our students, and want to make sure they are able to experience the eclipse in a safe manner. Please keep reading for Lewisville ISD’s plans by grade level:
Grades PK-2
It is not recommended that our youngest students view the eclipse outside. Instead, PK-2 students will have the opportunity to watch NASA's live stream of the eclipse. We encourage you to view NASA’s other online resources to explain this event to your student.
Grades 3-5
Students in grades 3-5 will have the opportunity to go outside to view the eclipse in the early afternoon on April 8. The Perot Museum has generously donated protective eyewear for each student to wear, and our campus staff will monitor students to ensure the eyewear is on correctly before inviting students outside. The eyewear provided from the Perot Museum is thousands of times darker than standard sunglasses to protect students from the concentrated solar rays. To learn more about safety considerations associated with the eclipse, including skin protection, click here. If you do not wish for your student to view the eclipse, please fill out this OPT OUT form here: OPT OUT FORM. PLEASE NOTE- the form will close at 9AM Monday, 4/8. Students who do not go outside will be able to watch NASA’s live stream of the event.
Many of our staff members have already incorporated this event into their lesson plans to enhance the educational experience for all students. We are excited for our students to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event, and witness science in action! As always, parents are the ultimate decision-makers on whether or not their students will attend school. If you choose to keep your student home to view the eclipse, please notify our school as you would for any absence. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

- In your child’s Friday Folder is the April Habit Newsletter. Attached to the newsletter is an activity that corresponds with the monthly habit. There is also a QR code that you can scan and listen to a story with your child and ask discussion questions given from the newsletter. Please assist your child in completing the activity and sign/return the activity sheet to their homeroom teacher by Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
- Wednesday, April 10th is also Habit 7 Day. We want to see the entire school wear RAINBOW colors for habit 7!
- We will be tracking grade level participation for returning the activity sheet. The grade level with the highest percentage of participation will receive extra recess!
- Congratulations to 2nd grade for the most participation for the month of March!
Hello CRE families! April is Library month and we are celebrating our wonderful library all month long! Students who are participating in the April Reading Challenge picked up a tracking bookmark and have until the end of the month to submit to participate in our raffle. Students who are participating will need to color in an image for every book they read (Picture and graphic novel) or every chapter (chapter books). Next week we will celebrate by offering students a chance to design their own bookmarks! The winning bookmarks will be reproduced and distributed in the library.

CRE Parents,
We will be hosting a game night at Coyote Ridge on April 25th! There will be snacks, drinks, fun games, and friends! Please bring your own game to play or enjoy some of the other games we will have at the event. Hebron high school board game club will be teaching students how to play chess. Can’t wait to see everyone there!

We proudly aim for 100% CRE staff participation, and we'd love to get as many families in as possible. Grandparents, neighbors, and community members are welcome members as well!
