The students really enjoyed getting to know one another today. We will try to keep the questions up this week, but this means the kids will have to keep them clean.

Many of you have asked for the games boards, so i will have Mrs. Sykes share the questions with you. She has a large bank of questions, that you can also use for your Thanksgiving project (if you planned on making conversation place mats or book marks). The questions are also great for circle time/ morning meetings.

*Please join in the conversation with the kids. Students love learning about their teachers. If they get through them quickly, tell them to explain why they made tat choice.

Please take a moment this Monday- Wednesday to visit the cafeteria to look at the posters that have been submitted. They are awesome!

Because we only had one submitted for kindergarten, they are considered the winner. Also, since no one submitted a poster for 1st grade, they will not have a winner. So you will only be voting for 2nd- 4th grades. (see pics below)

These are for your students. If they have ride the bus and want to celebrate their driver, allow them to write their driver's name (or bus number) on the certificate, sign their own name, and give it to their drive after school. They can also make them cards. This is a great activity for the 7:30- 7:55 time frame. Thank you!

RTI has moved from November 1st to November 8th, to allot for more data collection time.

See Mrs. Boykin if you have data collection questions.

We are seeing a few dips in data. If a student dropped that you know should not have, see one of the Specialists. They can go over data with you, and/ or re-assess the student in an environment with less distractions.

Week of 10/18: The Ed Tech group will be here tomorrow and Wednesday to help with a parts of speech activity with 3rd-4th using the Sphero robots. We want them have as much time as possible with the robots and activity, therefore, students will not check books out before leaving the library. PLEASE send them to the library with the Library Pass during the morning time, WIN time, stations, or whenever is convenient for you.

Also, when the students come in the library, they will drop their books off at the counter and I will check the books in quickly. If student’s aren’t finished with their book and want to keep their book longer…no problem. Just have them keep the book in the classroom J

ELAR:

An email went out to ELAR teachers (from the Coaches) reminding everyone of the district expectation that:

• Sound spelling cards are presented to the students in alignment w/ our scope & sequence, and
• the cards are hung up in the classroom (they don't want to see cards from previous adoptions)

Social Studies: an email went out from Mrs. Cobb saying to anticipate changes in K-2 SS.

"*With that said, if you are printing Balanced Lit guides more than two weeks in advance, be aware that the social studies portion may change."

*District walks have begun, so just expect for a visit any day now. However, if you are visited, don't get nervous; stick to the aligned, calibrated, lesson plan. You've got this!

The November 12th Math Night has been canceled and merged with Literacy Night (in December). Mrs. West is the coordinator for that event, so she will keep your teams updated on the plan.

This month we will be doing several things to promote kindness. Please encourage your son/ daughter to participate.

• 30 Acts of Kindness Challenge: write down one nice thing you've done each day. Turn in the completed log for a small gift.
• 10/1: Wear orange
• 10/7: Wear blue
• 10/16: Submit your entry for the positive message art contest
• 10/21: #NoOneEatsAlone- sit next to a new friend during lunch and have a conversation

• 10/1: Science
• 10/3: ELA

Please keep hallways quiet. 2nd grade, remember the notes sent to us by Amy Senato, to read the first test to your class, as this is their first experience with a 'big' exam. Submit all scantrons to Mrs. Wachsmann by Thursday afternoon.

Custodian's Day!

Please have your kids make cards for Mrs. Zandra and Mr. Gloria, and the afternoon crew. You can just deliver them to their doors, give them to her during lunch, or send them to the front office and we'll deliver them.

If possible, have your groups take pictures with her tomorrow.

Wear blue for world day of bullying prevention.

PLC data meetings to review iSIP & CBAs.

We will host a general PTA Meeting before the 3rd grade concert. The meeting will be in the Gideon cafeteria, and begin at 7:00 pm.

Parent teacher conferences.

- October 10th: 4:00- 7:30 pm

- October 11th: 7:30- 11:30 am

Co- Teachers: Plan to attend the conferences scheduled for your case- load.

Invite the counselor, Math/ Reading/ELL Specialist, and/ or Enrichment teacher, as necessary.

Document all parent conferences.

District-wide student holiday; teacher work day.

Ensure that every team & content is represented, and be sure to register this week in Eduphoria!

Remember that Co-Teachers & Specialists count, so if you cannot attend, get one of them to cover your spot. Text me a group picture on site, & with a Coordinator to receive credit!

Gators are celebrating Hispanic heritage. Kids will be exposed to Hispanic music and art during enrichment. on the 15th, please plan to allow the kids to share anything they've learned or found interesting about the Hispanic culture. They can present/ discuss from attire to food. More information to come from team leaders. This can be a part of your circle discussion that day, or if you can tie it into a content area (i.e. writing), it's up to your team. Parents can be a part of this discussion. However, let's plan to dress up in any way that we can.

On October 15th: wear Hispanic cultural attire, a t- shirt representing a Hispanic country or culture, or floral attire.

Grade level PLC: Calibration

Bring one ELAR & one Math activity (planned for the next week) for us to calibrate. Also, bring the lesson plans for the week of (10/20).

3rd & 4th Grades Parent Volunteer Day! (More info to come)

This is a day for parents to come experience a day of school with your child. Parents can expect to:

• make copies,
• monitor recess or lunch,
• read with small groups,
• prep activities for upcoming lessons,
• etc.

#ColorsforCaring

One the first Monday of each month, all MISD families are asked to wear a specific color or shirt in support of all cancer fighters, survivors, and those whom have lost loved ones to this viscous illness. This month Gideon will be wearing pink for breast cancer awareness.

You can participate, even if you’re not serving bread. It’s a good reminder for the kids. If you have your old apron and you aren't serving bread, please wear it that morning & during after school duties, to remind parents.

*The class with the highest participation will win a prize! (Usually , top two classes will win; start promoting to your families)

We'll be daring the students to say NO to drugs!

• Monday- "Hat's Off to a drug- free life!" (wear a hat)

• Wednesday- "Show good character by living drug- free." (dress as your favorite book character)
• Thursday- "Express yourself drug- free." (wear a costume, no mask)
• Friday- "Be a super hero in the fight against drugs." (dress as your favorite superhero)

This month's keys (for end of grading period assembly). Be sure to talk about these keys, teach them, model them, in class. If your kids make a skit about a key, please invite me to a presentation, so I can record it.
