Annual Library Report

Tracey Robbins retired at the end of the year, and we appreciate her efforts over the years. One of the projects she did this year was to work with students on reviewing the books they read and putting them on display. Students helping each other find great books! We also worked together on the policy and procedure manual, and we have a working draft going into next school year. Additional information can be found in the monthly newsletters. Karen Millichamp had a fabulous and inspiring year as Sherrard Grade's library aide. She had lots of fantastic activities with students, including making interactive art displays with students for Dot Day, and having "Dinovember" during November. In addition to her regular library duties, Emily Bradshaw helped facilitate the video lessons that we used all year, and helped with the 6th grade project at the end of the year. Jill Bennin created lessons to use with 5th and 6th grade weekly, and had a pretty comprehensive lesson schedule by the end of the year, with a few more in person lessons with 6th grade. Teresa Justice and Jill Bennin were able to host the Veterans Day Reception, add to the March Madness and poetry programming with a Valentine's Day and Mother's Day/Graduate crafting day, a game day program, and several others. The Teen Advisory Board helped with the programming ideas as well. Jill did several lessons and traveled to classrooms for book talks, in addition to the weekly book talks on the announcements. We also started a "Just for Fun" reading club to start developing more of a reading culture. Newsletters for Sherrard High School, and Newsletters for the Junior High School.

The Association of Illinois School Library Educators creates the I-SAIL (Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries), and they came out with new standards in 2022. This year I made a series of videos about the standards to share with staff in an effort to reach out for collaboration.

A goal from last year's report was to create a comprehensive policy and procedure manual for use in the district libraries. We do have a working draft at this point, although refinements and additions will need to be made throughout the year. Link for Policy and Procedure Manual

After some discussions about making sure everyone knew what to do when there were chromebook issues, Susan Serre and I worked on a Chromebook decision tree, and then shared it with the administration for approval. Once approved, we shared it out with the staff to help with clarifications.

Our library circulation numbers are up slightly this year. I could not get the EBSCO numbers for the year, due to a technical issue, but the rest of the information is present.
