Principal's Report - Phillip Reavis
1st Quarter Finished
I want to thank Oakview parents for all the ways you support your children with their education. In particular, I want to thank PTA for the amazing work they do each day as they support teachers and students. Oakview PTA sets the standard for others to follow and our students benefit greatly!
As we close the first quarter, I compiled this list of just a few things you are doing to help your children succeed in school! Keep up the great work!
- Check student book bags daily
- Attend parent/teacher conferences
- Review homework/school work
- Talk to your child about their day at school
- Keep up with school communications from the teacher and other school personnel
- Communicate to your child the importance of education and how their future depends on it
- Insure proper sleep at night
- Set an area and a time for homework completion
- Limit technology access and television viewing for children during the week
- Volunteer to help at school or on school sponsored events
Parent Report Card
With student report cards coming out soon, it’s now time for parents to assess how they are doing. Take a few minutes to evaluate yourself as a parent by using the Parent Report Card found on Oakview’s web site. No need to turn it in to your child’s teacher. It’s just for you to reflect and set new goals for yourself. The Parent Report Card can be found by clicking here.
Letter from the PTA President
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed a nice Fall Break and that your Teacher Conferences went well. As I see the leaves turning and feel the air getting crisp, I know what must be right around the corner. Yes, you guessed it - it’s time for Oakview’s Hootenanny - and this year we are hosting our 15th Annual Event. For those new to Oakview, we refer to our fantastic Fall Festival as the Hootenanny, and it is a night to come together as a school and a community. So be sure to bring your neighbors and come enjoy terrific games, fun rides, and plenty of delicious food on Friday, November 3, starting at 4:30 p.m.
This is a huge event and requires everyone to get involved! For details on how to volunteer; how to donate some very important items critical to the night’s festivities; and how to buy tickets, just go to www.oakviewpta.com. Thank you in advance for making this another fantastic night for all of our families and friends!
In addition to Hootenanny on the 3rd, next week is full of lots of things going on at Oakview. Red Ribbon Week is next week and Reflections entries will be accepted on November 1st and 2nd - both before and after school each day. Specifics for both are below, but I wanted to let you know that both are quickly approaching! Thank you again for your continued support of Oakview PTA. We are off to a terrific start this school year and I hope to see everyone at Hootenanny on Friday, November 3rd!

Getting to Know: Sallie Sexton
Meet Oakview's Administrative Assistant and soon-to-be mom!
Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Sallie Coker Sexton and I am 33 years old. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Andy. Andy is my best friend in the whole world and we love to travel and try new things together! We are so excited to be adding to our family this year. Our son, Augustus "Gus", is due December 13th.
You’re happiest when?
I am happiest when I am surrounded by the people I love. Andy and I always say that our biggest blessing in life is the people we are surrounded by-that includes you too Oakview family!
People would be surprised if they knew:
Many of my Oakview friends know this about me already, but I like the smell of skunks. Strange but true.
If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?
That's easy, a magic wand! Then you could have everything you would possible want or need, including a boat to take you back to the mainland, when you were done vacationing.
If you could meet anyone from any time period who would it be and why?
That is a tough question! I would choose Leonardo Da Vinci. Not only was an artist, but he was also an architect, writer, mathematician, inventor, botanist, musician, cartographer, military engineer, geologist and anatomist. To me, he was a magnificent problem solver. I'd like to know his motto for living and working.
What is your favorite event at Oakview?
The Hootenanny, of course! I love how this one event brings together families, teachers and students! It's a celebration of community!
