Fall Fun Ahead...
As we wrap up the first month of the school year, we are looking forward to our annual fall celebrations with great anticipation!
Our Open House will take place Wednesday, October 9th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. We will again utilize an open format; teachers and students will be able to visit teachers of their choice. We will be distributing 5-week academic progress reports to those who attend, and as has been the case in the past, we will be mailing progress reports to those who do not attend Open House. We hope to see you on the 9th!
We will celebrate homecoming throughout the week of October 7th. Students are encouraged to dress according to the themed day schedule, and we'll come together as a school community for a pep rally at the end of the week. The homecoming dance will take place Saturday, October 12.
Some of you may have heard that I will be transitioning into a new role in our district. I have been appointed Director of Instructional Services and will be working to support professional learning, student intervention, counseling services, human resources, evaluation systems, enrollment procedures, and other services in all three district schools. Mr. Michael Flagg has been appointed to the role of high school principal, and he will begin on November 1st. Joining the Sauquoit Valley community has been the greatest gift in my professional life, and I look forward to continuing to support our students and staff in this new role. Mr. Flagg has extensive leadership experience and a true passion for our community. We are thrilled to welcome him to our team, and I thank you in advance for supporting him as you've supported me.
Thank you to all of our students and parents for getting us off to a wonderful start this school year! Enjoy the fall weather, and we hope to see you soon!

Social and Emotional Health Remains a Priority
One of the goals of this year's SVHS Plan for Excellence is to support the social and emotional health of our students. We do this by developing students' knowledge and skills related to the five social/emotional competencies.
We have designated October "Self-Awareness Month" at SVHS. Throughout the month, students will be treated to activities during lunch periods, informative announcements, book displays, and other activities to promote the importance of self-awareness.
As always, if you have concerns about the social or emotional health of your child, please do not hesitate to contact our counselors. The counselor for freshmen and sophomores is Natalie DeTraglia (ndetraglia@svcsd.org), and the counselor for juniors and seniors is Pete Scialdone (pscialdone@svcsd.org).
SABA Partnership Continues
Our school is fortunate to be partnering with the School and Business Alliance (SABA) again this year! SABA will be supporting us to offer the following activities for our students:
- Career speakers and job-based training lessons incorporated into courses
- Freshmen and juniors completing an interest inventory to inform their career exploration pursuits
- Sophomores, juniors, and seniors being able to attend a business tour in the winter, construction career day, and manufacturing career day
- Sophomores and juniors being able to attend a college tour in the spring
- Juniors and seniors being able to participate in personalized career shadowing experiences
- Juniors and seniors being able to participate in personalized career internship experiences
We will be making announcements and sending ParentSquare messages in advance of these opportunities. We encourage all students to take advantage of these offerings!
