Principal Update
Dear Families,
We need your help! So far, only 3% of our families have responded to the 5Essentials Survey, and we need at least 20% participation to receive a detailed report that helps guide school improvement.
This anonymous survey takes just 10-15 minutes and provides valuable insights into our school’s strengths and areas for growth. Your voice matters!
To participate, visit: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
📍 Select "Barbara B Rose Elementary School" from the list
📍 Choose "Cook" as the county
Why Your Input is Important:
✅ Helps shape future decisions for our school
✅ Provides insight into school culture, learning conditions, and communication
✅ Ensures your voice is heard in making Rose even better!
The survey is open until March 28, 2025. Every response makes a difference!
Thank you for your time and support in making Rose a great place for all students to learn and grow. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
Best,
Dr. Ruesch
National School Social Work Week
A Special Thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Swanson and Ms. Sophie Niemaszyk During National School Social Work Week!
This week is a time to recognize and appreciate the profound impact our school social workers, Mrs. Swanson and Ms. Niemaszyk, have on our school community. They tirelessly provide emotional support, guidance, and resources that enhance our students’ academic and personal growth. Whether it’s leading group sessions, one-on-one counseling, or developing strategies for overall student well-being, they are always there with a compassionate heart and expert advice.
Join us in expressing our deepest gratitude for their dedication and commitment to the students at Rose. It’s through their efforts that we see the true meaning of Stingray Strong—supportive, inclusive, and always striving for the best in each student. We can't thank them enough for being an essential part of our school family and for all the incredible work they do every day!
Illinois Science Assessment (ISA)
All students in the state of Illinois enrolled in fifth and eighth grade will be administered the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA). At Rose, our 5th graders will be taking the test on March 11-13. Here is the link to read more about the Illinois Science Assessment. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or me.
Students Observing Ramadan
At Rose, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. We recognize that students observing Ramadan may have different needs during the school day, and we want to ensure they feel comfortable and supported.
If your child will be observing Ramadan and may require accommodations, please reach out to Dr. Ruesch via e-mail at CRuesch@barrington220.org. This will help us prepare and provide the best support possible during this important time.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a welcoming space for all!
Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is a required state assessment. It will be administered between April 1st and April 17th. Here is a link to a letter with more information.
The IAR measures individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Common Core State Standards. The United States Department of Education requires all eligible students to be assessed by the IAR in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students who are eligible include all students in grades third through eighth grade.
The IAR is administered using a computer. Students will be testing on their own district-issued devices.
Students should bring their devices to school fully charged.
Students will need earphones (either earphones or earbuds) to take the test.
Students at the elementary level will be provided with headsets.
Students at the middle school level should bring their own earphones or earbuds for testing. Headsets do not have to be expensive but should be comfortable and plug into a standard device earplug port.
Check the Lost and Found
We have many items in the Lost and Found. Items remaining in the Lost and Found on March 21st will be donated to local charities.

IMPORTANT Summer School Registration Note for Incoming Kindergarteners and New Students!
Prior to registering for summer school, any student new to our district must submit physical and immunization records via email to districtnurseoffice@barrington220.org. Students may register for summer school once medical forms are received and pre-registration is completed, submitted and approved for the 2025-26 school year. Pre-registration applications are processed in the order they are received. Within 1-3 business days of receiving an email confirmation of pre-registration approval, parents/guardians may log in to their Infinite Campus Parent Portal to access their child's Barrington 220 student ID number. To access this number, log in to the Parent Portal and select the menu item "More" followed by "Login ID Info." The ID number displayed can then be used to register the new student for summer school. If you have questions about the pre-registration process, please email registration@barrington220.org.
