November is Picture Book Month
Reading to young children is an important part of brain development. Children who are from impoverished families are exposed to less words and less books. Last year we raised $36 for Read Aloud Delaware. This organization provides training and readers to local organizations who work with young children. We are asking for your change. Vote with the coins that rattle around in the bottom of your backpack. This month vote for your favorite picture book. Check out the TV in the library for the best picture books.
Book Reviews
The winner of October’s poll was, March by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell. March is a three part series about Representative John Lewis and his experience with the Civil Rights Movement. Book 1 is the story of his childhood and college years. The book is engaging and informative. I love the history of everyday people because ordinary people often do extordinary things. Rep. John Lewis has gone on to be a figure in government but he started out as the son of a sharecroper. Any one of us can do great things.
I am listening to, A Plague of Giants by Kevin Hearne. If you love a big story with many intertwining parts this is the story for you. The world in this story is under siege by a nation of giants. There are many different points of view in the story and they each have a role to play. I love books where people and ideas come together to tell a complete story. This book is not currently available in our library, but it will be available later this year.
