The Latest from Camas School District
Board Highlights (just the facts)
At last night’s meeting, the school board approved our fall reopening plan. You can watch the presentation/discussion and review the plan at Fall 2020 Reopening Plan. We shared sample draft schedules for remote learning that each school will use as a framework for their schedules.
The plan is organized into sections including:
- Developing the Plan: guiding principles, community engagement, feedback loops, why remote learning?
- Community Engagement: an overview of how we informed stakeholders and used their feedback to inform our planning process
- Part I - Mandatory Health Requirements: high-risk employees, drop-off and pick-up plans, screening plan, social distancing guidelines, meals to students, hygiene, masks, cleaning regimen, transportation, suspected & confirmed cases
- Part II – Statutory Education Requirements: 180 instructional days and required instructional hours, weekly schedule, attendance, learning standards, grading policies, transition back to on-campus learning
- Part III – Additional Expectations: addressing “incompletes”, summer learning, universal screening, family & community engagement, connectivity, professional learning
This is not the way we had hoped to start the school year. Starting remotely presents a lot of challenges for families and district staff alike. We are proud of the tradition of public schools and consistent community support in Camas. We have talented and creative staff ready to deliver a high-quality education for your student no matter what the learning delivery model.

What if I don’t have reliable WIFI access? We are working to provide options including wifi hotspots and creating safe places to access wifi. Please let us know if you have wifi concerns using this LINK.
What if I need emergency childcare as we transition back to on-campus learning?
We recognize that each family is in a unique situation and may need support. We are trying to develop options for families in these situations. Please contact us using this LINK.
What if my family relies on school breakfast and/or lunch services?
We will develop a similar process to how we provided these meals in the spring during remote learning.
The Camas Connect Academy is a fully online option for students. We are recommending the Camas Connect Academy for families in grades 3-12 who do not have a desire to return to on-campus learning at any point during the school year and have the ability to support their students from home in an educational environment with more flexibility and less structure. For all others, we are recommending starting with us remotely and then transition towards more on-campus learning during the year. There will be Q&A sessions for Camas Connect Academy on:
- Thursday, August 13, at 5 PM for elementary students (grades 3-5) https://camas-wednet-edu.zoom.us/j/99965921663 Webinar ID: 999 6592 1663 | Or Telephone: +1 253 215 8782

Backpack Program Volunteers
The Treasure House student Weekend Backpack Program has been serving Camas students for 10 years. When school dismissed in March, the decision was made to continue providing our students with food bags each week. Thanks to the dedication of our school district and community volunteers, bags are delivered directly to each family home.
"A huge thanks to the many folks who have partnered in keeping this program going for the past five months... district staff who purchased needed food items weekly, dependable staff and community folks who deliver food bags every week, supporting churches who have held food drives, individuals who drop off needed items to the Treasure House specifically for the backpack bags, and the ongoing financial support from our community. We are so grateful for the Camas community that strives to serve our students and families," commented program coordinator and retired Lacamas Heights teacher Diana Rennie.
As the new school year approaches, families needing support may register for this program by contacting their child’s school office and/or the school counselor. Those families currently receiving the Backpack need to also sign up again.
