Principal's Message
Spring Break is 10 Days Away!
During Spring Break, you can engage your students with activities like volunteering at local organizations, visiting museums to learn about different subjects, going on outdoor camping trips, exploring new parks, attending workshops or classes related to their interests, or even planning a creative project like making a short film together
Ideas for engaging Spring Break activities with students:
Community service:
Volunteer at a local food bank, animal shelter, or community center to give back to the community and develop social responsibility.
Museum exploration:
Visit art museums, science centers, or historical sites to learn about different cultures and periods while having fun.
Outdoor adventures:
Go camping, hiking, or biking in nearby parks to enjoy the spring weather and get some exercise.
Creative projects:
Organize a group filmmaking project, write and perform a play, or design a community art piece.
Skill development workshops:
Attend workshops on coding, photography, cooking, or other skills that interest your students.
Local field trips:
Explore local businesses, landmarks, or historical sites that are relevant to your curriculum.
Reading challenges:
Encourage students to read books related to their interests or a specific theme and discuss them as a group.
Nature exploration:
Visit a botanical garden, arboretum, or nature preserve to learn about plants and ecosystems.
Science experiments:
Conduct hands-on science experiments at home or in a lab, exploring concepts learned in class.
Important considerations:
Student interests:
Tailor activities to match the interests of your students to maximize engagement.
Safety first:
Ensure all activities are planned with safety protocols in mind, especially for outdoor excursions.
Flexibility:
Be prepared to adapt plans based on weather conditions or unexpected situations.
UOP & Rotary Hearing Screening Event
Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club is partnering with the University of the Pacific again this year, to provide a Free Hearing Screening Event that will be held on Saturday, March 15th at the UOP Chan Health Sciences Learning Center Audiology Department in Stockton.
90% of those in need of help are not even aware of it! They just go through life, increasing the volume of the TV and Radio, unable to learn and live life to their full potential. They become more frustrated as time goes on, disengaging themselves day-to-day all because they are experiencing hearing loss. Potential patients will be screened to determine if they are experiencing hearing loss, they will be checked for ear wax buildup or fluid in the ear, these are common reasons for hearing loss. Since the screening is being held at the UOP Audiology facility potential patients, that are determined to be in critical need, can be expedited upstairs to the Diagnostic Center testing booths that very same day! Once it has been determined that potential patients are experiencing hearing loss, the UOP Audiology Department will be vetting them for needs, ability of financial responsibility for care, and move them through the process of treatment.
The goal is to help as many people as possible. If you have any questions, contact Richard Ross at 209-327-0627 or richardr@alamoalarm.com.

Crosswalk Safety
In order to continue keeping our Oakwood students, staff, and families safe before school at drop off and after school at dismissal, we are asking our community to follow all California laws pertaining to our crosswalk. Please see before for reminders.
California law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks, including those near schools. Drivers should be especially careful in school zones, where children may not be aware of traffic.
Laws for school crosswalks
- California Vehicle Code (CVC) 21950: Requires drivers to yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks, including those near schools
- CVC 21368: Covers marked pedestrian crosswalks near school buildings
- Daylighting law: Prohibits parking within 20 ft of any marked or unmarked crosswalk
Other safety tips for school crosswalks:
- Drivers should be prepared for sudden stops and avoid distractions
- Drivers should slow down and yield to pedestrians at crosswalks
- Drivers should look for pedestrians and be prepared to stop, whether or not the crosswalk has flashing lights
