The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Family Update
Sunday, March 31st
Dear CES Families and Friends,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend. On behalf of our amazing staff, I'd like to wish a very Happy Easter to all who celebrate. This coming week is shaping up to be one of the busiest of the school year. Please read on and don't miss any of it!
Ms. Macomber's STEM classes have been learning all about the sun and moon in preparation for Monday's solar eclipse. While we are sad that the eclipse is expected to take place during dismissal and after school hours, we are sending protective glasses home with each student so they can safely witness this astronomical phenomena that won't happen again for another 20 years!
Also on Monday, Session IV of After-School Clubs begins. Ms. Deb has sent email confirmations to each student's family. This is a huge undertaking and we so appreciate all the work Ms. Deb puts into securing great choices in clubs and making sure every student gets into a club over the course of the year. Please remember to update your Pick Up Patrol plans with any changes to your student's dismissal plans!
MCAS testing kicks off on Tuesday. Our Grade 3 students will be testing and showcasing how much they have learned in English Language Arts (ELA) on Tuesday and Wednesday. We ask that Grade 3 families make sure students get a good night's sleep before testing and that students arrive to school on time! Testing begins by 8:15. Grade 4 students will test next week on Wednesday, April 10th, and Thursday, April 11th.
On Tuesday, our school will be recognizing National Autism Awareness Day. Students and staff are asked to wear the color RED in honor of this special day.
On Wednesday, our SHARKS will be happy to celebrate another SHARK Assembly. During this month's assembly we will find out which of the March Madness Books is the 2024 CES Champion!
On Thursday, we will be celebrating our love of reading and the end of the March Madness Book Challenge with an incredible performer. Mr. Len Cabral is a world-renowned story teller. He will be coming to CES to share some of his fantastic tales for an all-school assembly on Thursday morning. Then, our 4th grade classrooms will have the opportunity to participate in special workshops with Mr. Cabral. They will learn how to tell their own stories and develop their own voice. Thank you PTO for sponsoring this incredible event!!!
Friday will be the last day of our clothing drive with Project 351. The flyer below provides more information, but we are collecting clothing for infants through age 12. What a great excuse to start some spring cleaning and weed out any clothes your children no longer use! And our final treat, during lunches on Friday, the Harlem Wizards will be visiting with all students. The Wizards play MRSD teachers and students next Friday night. It's always a great event!!
Here's to a great week ahead!!
Fondly,
Dr. Kelly
